Brand-new 4K restoration transfer, debuting directly on hi-def Blu-ray! From the director of Around the World in 80 Days, Operation Crossbow and Logan’s Run comes “the thinking man’s spy thriller” that “remains perversely likable precisely because it is rather long-winded and enigmatic: it gets closer to the feel of Len Deighton’s novels far better than any of the three Harry Palmer films. The acting, with George Segal versus neo-Nazi Max von Sydow, is excellent” (Chris Petit, Time Out Film Guide), as is the music by five-time Academy Award® winner John Barry.
Good article about the movie from TCM: http://www.tcm.com/tcmdb/title/87505.../articles.html

Special Features: Isolated Score Track / Audio Commentary with Film Historians Eddy Friedfeld and Lee Pfeiffer / Original Theatrical Trailer

Directed by Michael Anderson, whose filmography includes Around the World in 80 Days, Logan's Run, The Dam Busters, Orca, Chase a Crooked Shadow, The Shoes of the Fisherman and several episodes of TV's The Martian Chronicles.

Starring:

Alec Guiness (Star Wars, Doctor Zhivago, Our Man in Havana, Lawrence of Arabia, The Bridge on the River Kwai, The Lavender Hill Mob, The Ladykillers)

Max von Sydow (The Exorcist, The Seventh Seal, Wild Strawberries, The Virgin Spring, Through a Glass Darkly, Hawaii, Hour of the Wolf, The Emigrants, Minority Report, Three Days of the Condor, to name but a few of his over 150 films)

Senta Berger (Major Dundee, The Glory Guys, Cast a Giant Shadow, and many European films)

George Sanders (All About Eve, Village of the Damned, Rebecca, The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, The Picture of Dorian Gray, The Kremlin Letter, Samson and Delilah, and many more, including the voice of Shere Khan the Tiger in Disney's The Jungle Book)

Fresh off the dazzling double-header of 1977’s Close Encounters of the Third Kind and The Goodbye Girl, the appealing and resilient Richard Dreyfuss stars in and co-produced this clever mystery caper about a divorced-dad L.A. detective navigating the treacherous paths of his radical past and the cooler reality of his working-stiff present to tackle a potentially explosive case of political sabotage. Bonnie Bedelia, Susan Anspach, John Lithgow, F. Murray Abraham and Fritz Weaver offer sterling supporting backup. Bill Conti supplies a flavorful score for solid hi-def Blu-ray sleuthing.

Two Academy Award®-winning actors square off in a tension-packed outdoor action thriller (partly shot on starkly beautiful Mexican locations) and with regard to one of them, ”Ray Milland has never been nastier” (Leonard Maltin’s Classic Movie Guide). From veteran 50+-year director Allan Dwan (Sands of Iwo Jima, Slightly Scarlet) comes a marvelously bracing and compact sun-baked noir in well-deployed Cinemascope, now making its hi-def Blu-ray debut!

Special Features: Isolated Music & Effects Track / Audio Commentary with Film Historians Alain Silver and James Ursini / Original Theatrical Trailer

Directed by Allan Dwan, one of cinema's early pioneers who directed over 400 films, mostly in the silent era. His filmography includes Sands of Iwo Jima, Escape to Burma, Stage Struck, Zaza, Bound in Morocco, The Good Bad Man, The Half-Breed, Manhandled, Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm, and Woman They Almost Lynched.

Starring:

Ray Milland (The Lost Weekend, Dial M for Murder, The Big Clock, Panic in Year Zero, Ministry of Fear, Escape to Witch Mountain)

Anthony Quinn (Zorba the Greek, The Guns of Navarone, Lawrence of Arabia, The Shoes of the Fisherman, The Secret of Santa Vittoria, Behold a Pale Horse, Barabbas, The Savage Innocents, Across 110th Street)

Debra Paget (Cry of the City, The Ten Commandments, Broken Arrow, Demetrius and the Gladiators, Prince Valiant, Love Me Tender)

Cinematography by Harold Lipstein (Von Ryan's Express, Damn Yankees, Pal Joey, Hell is for Heroes, None But the Brave, The Night of the Grizzly)

A nimble, one-of-a-kind classic finally arrives on Blu-ray in a splendidly spiffy hi-def restoration: “One of the most underrated of John Ford’s early films” and “a masterful balance of comedy and drama with a very dark subtext. Edward G. Robinson handles the part beautifully, bringing several shadings and subtleties to a double role. Director Ford and actor Robinson turn what could have been dismissed as just another light, frivolous entertainment into an evocative work of art” (The Motion Picture Guide), with the invaluable assistance of the sublimely spunky Jean Arthur.

The write-up on The Quiller Memorandum makes it sound more interesting than I remember it. I guess I'll have to give it a re-visit. And, speaking of George Segal, I can't wait for King Rat. I think that might be his finest performance and I hope it gets announced soon.

By the way, this latest slate of announcement is great. If I weren't such a cheap bastard, I would order them all day one.

Regarding The Quiller Memorandum, I loved the espionage novel by "Adam Hall." The
idea is that Quiller has to find the base of the neo-Nazis and report it to the authorities
so that the Nazi's can be identified and arrested. He has to let them catch him to do this,
but after a long torture they turn him loose so that they can follow him back to his
secret base. By the time I caught up with the film on early 1970s TV, I was surprised at
how different it was from the novel. George Segal an American actor best known for
comedies, was nothing like the Brit-German spy With No Name who answers to "Quiller."
And the meticulous street following afoot and counter-following is considerably
de-emphasized. It's all still there, but differently. Harold Pinter emphasizes different
things in his script even when he's faithful to the book. The film is a deep, nuanced well.
Solid spy film on its own terms. Very Pinteresque. Memorable.

Twilight Time's blu-ray is most welcome.

The River's Edge is a good suspense film but The Quiller Memorandum is memorable.
Give the espionage film a chance this month.

I'm in The Quiller Memorandum and The Whole Towns Talking. I've noticed that Quiller got a UK release(ITV, Studiocanal?) which doesn't look like it was very good video and audio wise.

Does TT have some kind of new deal? Or do Fox or Sony have the US rights to Quiller?

Try atrocious. It makes it look like the film was shot in a blizzard with a flickering lightbulb.

Most of Rank's more expensive 60s films were co-productions with major US studios that took US rights, ie:

The Heroes of Telemark - Columbia
The Long Duel - Paramount
The IPCRESS File - Universal
The Quiller Memorandum - 20th Century Fox
The Royal Hunt of the Sun - National General

Wasn't National General Pictures part of the old theatre chain company? I always wondered who owns there stuff again?

They were. Some of the National General/Cinema Center titles like Big Jake, A Man Called Horse, Scrooge, Le Mans, The Reivers and Little Big Man went out on home video from Paramount but others like The Getaway, The Stalking Moon, Executive Action and The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean came out through Warners (which they tried to buy in 1969). Some others they just had short term US distribution rights.

First of all you are most welcome !

Update for all . Zelig is now sold out & Eddy Dutchin has just 40 remaining then it's sold our . If it sells out it i1s possible another title will be added to their 7 for $70 offer .

I still think it's possible Miss Sadie Thompson , Hawaii as well as remains of the day could sell out & possibly the train due to past announcements of low quantity in the past . They may or may not sell out of some or all of those I am just making my best guess just so everyone knows just my opinion .

All the best to all !

Got Broken Lance and Born Free from this sale. Meant to get Born Free when it was going for 9.99 previously during one of these sales but passed it up for something else.
