Response from Twilight Time:

Per information provided by Fox, the Whirlpool HD master will not be newer than the 2015 BFI release.

Great news about WILD IN THE COUNTRY. Great supporting cast, and the film has what I consider to be the finest background score of any Elvis film. I hope and expect that the score will be isolated on an audio track.

Well that’s disappointing, I believe the previous reason given for this title taking so long to release was that they were waiting on a restoration (same with Fallen Angel). A number of TT’s recent Fox releases have also not been restorations so would not be surprised if Disney is cutting down the restoration funding to Fox.

I have an unfortunate feeling that, as with The Iron Horse, once the Disney merger seemed like a done deal and Fox imposed their moratorium on new deals all outstanding non-'evergreen' title restorations were cancelled/postponed/re-evaluated and with Twilight Time's licensing deals not certain to be renewed they're just going to have to go with the best of what's available or lose whatever their advance was.

I don’t think Fox had a moratorium on new deals since they just recently did a new one with Shout Factory and possibly Twilight Time as well.

It's a shame they don't really allow label restorations (not that TT would do any).

That'd be awful. So many Fox titles that still haven't seen a home video release.

Other labels have been fairly quiet with Fox titles such as Kino. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if Shout's deal with Fox was limited to whatever Anchor Bay had released or some random title that was released elsewhere such as "Shock Treatment".

Well Warning Sign would suggest it isn't just that, but the trouble as always with Fox is (was?) their policy of not allowing labels to create/fund new HD masters (will this change under Disney? If so, it might be an unforeseen benefit of the deal), ergo any label would have to make do with titles that have HD masters. For Scream Factory this probably means a large number of double-dips, given that A) there aren't too many Fox horror/sci-fi titles left to release; and B) Of those remaining, how many will have HD masters? Obviously there will be a few (The Fly II and Curse of the Fly come to mind), but it remains to be seen if these were even available to Scream.

As for Kino, they continue to sound fairly hopeful of a new Fox deal, and given their dealings with Disney (albeit on a restricted scale) it might give them an advantage.

I had forgotten about "Warning Sign" (though, AB did a DVD release of it in 2006). Still, I doubt Fox's policy would change under Disney when it comes to label remasters.

I would imagine Fallen Angel is going to be announced before the years end with the same transfer as BFI.

We cannot really speculate on anything at this point. But there are other labels in play for Fox catalog titles now. RE: Disney, I think they are going to be more conservative about how much they will spend on restorations, and the titles that will get the attention.

The Shout deal predates the moratorium and TT and various other labels have confirmed there have been no new deals since: they're just releasing the outstanding titles on their previous deals at the moment.

Has TT stopped releasing films post the 1970s? While there have been some good titles, I would imagine more sales for more recent titles.

There have been a few - Hussy, Melvin and Howard, The Children of Huang Shi, Geronimo, In My Country, Gloria, Talk Radio - but they've certainly been thinner on the ground, though it's usually the post-70s titles that seem to be slower sellers judging from their sales.

TT must be printing money over there since we haven't had a respectable sale in what, months?

Glad to see they're flourishing.

It has been a while. I wonder what kind of effect losing Nick had on the company. I mean obviously but you know what I mean. I hate seeing any physical media company struggling (though I have no idea if they are even struggling).

I remember when Twilight Time hardly ever had sales. Then sales became more frequent until it seemed like they had a major sale every month. Now, not so often again. I'm sure the company is going through a period of transition. I just hope they keep going because they probably put out a higher percentage of films that I'm interested in (classic Hollywood, 40s through mid 70s) than any other label.

Without going into details, TT's plans haven't been changed by Nick's passing and are continuing on the schedule that was previously set out after the Fox moratorium.
