Right now, with the rent and utilities due, any deterrent to my Bluray spending is a good thing, so this sale is perfectly priced for me.

Yeah Boo twilight time Hiss

Fox and Sony give them the licences for free

Their replicating costs are free

Their encoders are such movie buffs they’ve waived all their fees

Their staff work for free like the rest of us

Such a horrible horrible company

It’s exasperating why they can’t sell an entitled aresshole like me a movie for $15

Why are you the way that you are?

God forbid people say something is too expensive. Especially when they previously offered titles for $15 on sale. Nobody claimed they made the releases for free nor did anybody demand TT make them available for lower. This is just consumers exercising their right to say "no this is too expensive" or "this price is fine", just as TT is free to sell at whatever price they want. I guarantee you they knew some people wouldn't buy at the higher price point, but I'm sure they're fine with the trade off.

The comments I have read here have all been understanding. Unhappy at the price hike, sure, but they are all mature enough to understand this was just a business decision.

The only person being an arse here is you. If this price is fine for you, go ahead and buy away. There is just no need to be a dick about it.

Price hike? Their MSRP is less than Criterion and most major studios except Kino, but Kino's transfers are typically 50/50 do you get what you pay for.

It's amazing how many people still whine and complain yet have no idea what MSRP is, and that retailers mark down media and sell it at a loss which is why some discs end up cheap on sale. TT just doesn't have a middle man selling at a loss. But that doesn't mean they "sell" for more.

You're right about that, but we're not talking about MSRP right now. We're talking about their sale prices.

Last year, they frequently offered 15 for $15 sales. Now, for the first time in a bit (which is fine), they offer a sale where all of those titles are $22.50 with some older titles lower than $15 (which is cool). To me, that's a price hike as the typical sale title went from $15 to $22.50. They are discounting it less. They don't have to discount it at all, but I'm personally not comfortable paying $22.50 for a TT release whereas I would gladly pay the same for a Criterion release.

Again, TT made a business decision to raise their overall sale price (again, not the MSRP). That's fine. Whatever calculations they did likely showed they would make more in revenue, even if they lost consumers. That's just the way business works. Some people in this thread bought titles they wanted. Others did not. Nobody is wrong and TT is not wrong.

I bought Blue Denim, The Quiller Memorandum, Anne of the Thousand Days, X Y and Zee,
Hardcore, and Oklahoma Crude. I have my eye on a dozen other titles.

I'd have bought more blu-rays if prices were lower and there was a free shipping threshold.

Trust me, BEAT THE DEVIL is worth full price. I bought it day one. If you
haven't seen this restoration, then you've never seen the film. It resides
on my John Huston shelf.

I'll second that - an expensive blind buy, but it turned out to be a great one.

It would be great if Indicator get hold of this, and stack it with extras. I'd double dip in a second

I'll third that: Beat the Devil is worth every penny:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...l#post16033787

- and, after years of crappy home video transfers, the TT Blu of The Quiller Memorandum is gorgeous:

I’ll have to bite for a few soon. Usually have had luck hitting eBay for my needed titles in addition to the old sales but it’s largely been a desert for them on there for the last few months.

The only one I really want from their website is Blue Denim, but $22 is still way too much for a completely barebones release. I can do $15, but I would only consider it at a higher price if it’s close to selling out (which I doubt will happen anytime soon with that film).

I want Where the Sidewalk Ends too, but it looks like it’s only in stock on Screen Archives ATM.

With the wonderful Bernard Herrmann score isolated on an audio track, I don't consider BLUE DENIM to be completely bare-boned.

FWIW, I placed an order with SAE for Beat the Devil and The Snake Pit on July 4th (a holiday). It arrived today (July 8th). I'm amazed at the speed! (And that was using media mail too).

I'm waiting for THE HOT ROCK to hit $15. If it does, I'll pick it up.

Just a note that the sold out titles Mississippi Mermaid and the Story of Adele H are part of this month's MGM HD on demand selections (on Verizon for me)

Almost all of TT's discs have isolated scores, which is cool, but not something I really find myself listening to (I definitely don't count trailers). I'm not sure what else they could've included, but I actually am curious to read Julie Kirgo's essay on the film, even if I would've appreciated a commentary too (there's a lot to talk about given the sociopolitical changes that have happened in 60 years). I'm not sure how likely it would've been to get Carol Lynley involved in a new interview or commentary. Either way, it's a very obscure film these days (if still a fascinating watch; my feature screenplay was partially named after it) and I'm not surprised the release doesn't have more extras. I just would've more likely bought it by now if it cost a bit less.

I do love TT's release of Don't Bother to Knock, which I also dropped about $30 on, but it did have two 1-hour archival docs on Marilyn Monroe and Richard Widmark.

It's amazing to me how often original theatrical trailers are discounted when it comes to citing viable extras or even, as above, an extra at all. I must be in the minority as I consider a trailer to be one of my most sought after extras, a fascinating way to explore how a film was promoted to the general public by a sometimes clueless advertising department or sometimes as a genuinely intriguing short film in and of itself. To me it's as integral a part of the film and its history and art as using the original poster on the cover.

Some trailers, like the 1946 version of THE BIG SLEEP, feature original footage available nowhere else and other trailers are beautifully composed works of minimalist art, like the Friedkin supervised and edited one for SORCERER (which was brutally omitted from the Blu!). In any case, I want to be immersed in the whole original film experience and that most definitely includes the trailer.
