Taking advantage of last month's sale, I blind bought The World of Henry Orient since it was only $5.95. And I can say that it was definitely worth it. It was a cute and fun film, with its share of seriousness as well.

Fast forward to today, and I had a chance to meet Merrie Spaeth, who played Marian Gilbert in the film. She is a very sweet lady, and was willing to give a new fan some of her time to talk about the film and show me some stuff from and about the movie. Of course I got an autograph and a picture with her as well. That board behind us is signed by the cast of the movie.

Cool. AFAIK, The World of Henry Orient was her only professional acting role. She has had an interesting career since then.

I posted this in the film's dedicated thread but it doesn't get a lot of traffic (my post was only the second one after the OP with the announcement details) so I'm posting this here too:

Did anyone else notice that the audio is a tad out of synch in places on Pin Up Girl? This includes the first bit of spoken dialogue in the movie. I've never seen the movie before so I wasn't sure if that was simply the way it was looped and it's always been like that, or if was a problem with the release.

I tried the disc on two different players with two different audio feeds, so it was not an equipment issue and it didn't affect the entire movie.

Brian Jamieson was at a French roundtable yesterday, and seemingly told TT are having at break at releasing new stuff in order to re-assess the current market.

I hope they're still able to put stuff out, but it seems like between a slowing market and just not having the number of titles to choose from that they used to I'm not shocked. Maybe they can get going again next year staying at the two titles a month, or even just one. Also if they're having trouble selling 3,000 copies of things they could negotiate doing only 2,000 or even 1,000.

That doesn't sound too good, but we'll have to wait and see. Hope they don't go the way of Vestron though. This is selfish of me but I do hope they still have sales while they figure out new releases, etc.

If they are having to pay for remastering and things like that on any project, that price doesn't change. If they are having trouble making money with 3000, they would definitely lose money on 1,000 or 2,000 (even if they sold them all) on things with no existing hd master to license.

This tends to be my understanding too. I'm also unsure the licence fees would change if the batch run would go down. I suppose the studios are only willing to negociate so much, and it'd mean having to ecoup all those costs with less copies, ie higher selling prices. TT's prices are already high enough already, I can't see them going even higher, especially as one can't say they're compensating with more extra features or more lavish releases.

I'm assuming the remastering thing is what would make Universal basically a no go (which I think they were only doing a limited time thing with them anyway) since we've seen that if you get a dated master from Universal, it usually looks much worse than when you get a dated master from Fox or MGM/UA. It would pretty much leave Sony then, and I'm not even sure what's left from them to license from Sony that has been remastered that Sony has no intention of releasing themselves.

I would be interested in The Long Grey Line and Gideon’s Day, both by John Ford. I doubt if either of those would get a Sony release.

Yeah any John Ford would be a good choice, but I guess they've also got to find things that will sell to more than just the niche of the niche. Is there anything like that left that Sony would part with that hasn't already been released?

Not really, but that has always been the case. Sony doesn’t usually license films that it thinks will sell really well. A case in point is Christine. I think that they originally miscalculated the demand, and when they saw how well it sold for TT, they released it themselves.

Selfishly, I was just thinking of myself when I mentioned those Fords. I doubt that they would be big sellers.

Well, that doesn't sound good. Hopefully this isn't the end as I've enjoyed them as a label.

To quote Iago (from Aladdin, not Othello): "Well, that's a surprise! I could have a heart attack and die from that surprise!"

Given the reason why they came up with the name "Twilight Time", this shouldn't come as a big shock.

On edit:

In case there are some of you who don't know the origin of the name...

https://www.hometheaterforum.com/com...d-more.310943/

"I think that home video, the physical media, is going to be like the soundtrack business became in the 90s, which is when the major labels got out of soundtracks, and the future of releases depended on niche labels to carry the entire weight of that small world. And I think that DVD and Blu-ray particularly is going to devolve to a third party world while the studios concentrate much more on the digital future: downloading and streaming and beaming it into your house directly. Physical media is coming to an end, which is why we called the label Twilight Time. I mean that was the joke: it’s Twilight Time. The sun is setting on the world of physical media. This is what it’s about. This is the last go-round--this is the end of home video as we have known it up to now."
