Not dead yet!
While we may not have any new TT exclusive titles, they are still selling other movies on their site. Out of the Blue went up on their site recently, and now Solstice has as well. This was originally posted by rdodolak in the Solstice thread, but here's the link: https://www.twilighttimemovies.com/s...rsary-blu-ray/ |

The Incident (1967) was an absolute tour de force. An incredibly uncomfortable but amazing movie.

Couldn't agree more. Everyone is a standout in it, but a special shout out to Beau Bridges and Jan Sterling who are absolutely superb. Think Jeff Bridges got all the talent between them? Watch this and tell me that Beau Bridges isn't a simply terrific actor.

I think 'uncomfortable' is possibly the best adjective to describe this movie. The film makes you feel like you're right on the train with them. Tony Musante creates a villain so detestable you want to reach through the screen and kick the crap out of him. Beau Bridges and Martin Sheen were also terrific in this.

I confess that when I first started collecting Blu-rays (late 2013/early 2014), I kinda hated Twilight Time because of their business model of only printing 3000 (sometimes 5000) units of their titles, and I missed the boat on films like Christine, Fright Night, and Night of the Living Dead (1990), and I felt like I was forced to drop $20 on The Blob, the Fright Night reissue, and John Carpenter’s Vampires almost immediately when they went on sale if I wanted to ever add them to my collection. They were just getting too many titles, particularly from Sony, that didn’t fit their business model. Everything I mentioned would’ve been better fits for Scream Factory or Arrow, especially since horror seems to sell very well on Blu-ray.
However, I thought if I missed the boat, these titles were gone forever. It didn’t occur to me for a while that these titles could be reissued, and all of them have at this point, either by Sony themselves or Scream Factory, and Kino has reissued plenty of their MGM titles (Mill Creek also has a few of their Sony titles). There were also overseas versions of many of these titles, and sometimes they were region free (as is usually the case with international releases of Sony titles), and I have Umbrella’s Australian release of NOTLD ‘90 (I also plan on getting Indicator’s disc for The Big Heat). I also realized that most titles from Twilight Time actually do fit their business model, and I was able to pick up some of their Fox films like Peyton Place and their two Marilyn Monroe films when they were on sale. I realized that they really did seem to mostly go for older (pre-1965) films, which makes more sense with the business model, although nowadays, Kino mostly seems to be filling that void, even if their releases aren’t quite as nice. I do appreciate Twilight Time’s releases themselves because of their (usually) excellent package design, interesting essays from Julie Kirgo, and sometimes good supplements. It’s clear they were run by people that appreciate film as an artform, and I guess I’ll miss them if they die for good. There’s still at least two of their titles I plan on picking up, but I’m kind of holding out for a sale at this point. Now when is someone going to pick up The Driver and Leave Her to Heaven? Those are the only ex-TT titles that I can’t pick up elsewhere. There isn’t even a region B release of the latter. |

I'm particularly worried about these 2 titles given the current status of all Fox titles. I thought for sure somebody would have put these out by now, but if they weren't already picked up then the chances of seeing future stateside releases for them are incredibly bleak.

Long before the moratorium, Fox reportedly refused to license it to Eureka and the BFI: whether it was a rights issue, a planned restoration or thoughts of releasing it themselves is anybody's guess, but it was firmly off the table.

It's StudioCanal in most overseas territories, hence the UK and French editions with different extras and the slightly longer 91-minute European cut of the film (the supposed 131-minute version with its mythical additional car chases never existed and, like its supposed AFI screening, has been debunked by Hill *). I think Stateside it's just one that nobody asked for after TT's license expired.
* Along with the deleted shot under protest opening scene that was used in some US TV screenings at least one deleted scene was shot where Bruce Dern kills the wounded bank robber in a toilet stalll. A still from it was used quite extensively in the film's original publicity: ![]() It was probably cut both for running time and because of its similarity to the end of the train scene. ![]() Last edited by Aclea; 11-25-2019 at 11:38 PM. |

If there's a film a really, really want to own but BD doesn't exist except in bootleg form, I honestly just settle with the DVD until/unless a BD finally gets released.

I’ve considered just getting Fox’s 2005 DVD (still in print), but it feels like such a shame to settle for an SD presentation for a technicolor film as gorgeous as this (it even won an Oscar for its cinematography).
I’m thinking it’s possible that Fox wanted to release it themselves after TT’s license expired. It was the studio’s biggest film of the 1940s after all. Last edited by GeoffOliver; 11-26-2019 at 06:19 AM. |

Leave Her to Heaven was one of my best blind buys. Great movie, and Gene Tierney looks stunning in Technicolor.
I wonder if people should jump on the other Gene Tierney films Fox released themselves (Laura, The Ghost and Mrs. Muir) before they go OOP. |
