Actually, they don't. The MSRPs on Kino titles are $29.95, same as Twilight Time. Yes, there are some that are $24.95, but then that's true of TT as well.

It is really easy for everyone to shit on TT but when they first released The Egyptian on blu-ray, there was next to no distributors issuing movies from Hollywood’s classic period. Their model maybe outdated now and they may need to think of a new strategy but I hope they stick around.

Now you have me wondering if it was Twilight Time that paved the way for others to offer a lot of (nearly) forgotten gems.

(I regret not forking over the money for The Egyptian. I had my chances.)

I think I picked up SAE's last copy of that one (sorry, but not sorry if you know what I mean), swooping in at the very last minute - not so much because of price, more in hopes it would last until TT set up their then just a rumor website: SAE's descent into bad and just plain obnoxiously hostile customer service after years of being a regular soundtrack customer makes them my outlet of very last resort.

I'm relatively new to the limited edition Blu-ray market, having only learned of TT a few months ago, but on the video game side of things, I absolutely believe that were it not for Limited Run Games, the demand for video games on physical media would not be as strong as it is now. Every few months a new limited publisher pops up, and tons of great indie games that used to only be available digitally are now being produced on discs and carts.

So again, I don't know TT's history or place in the BD community, but it may very well be possible that they helped the collecting market in bigger ways than just the movies they've provided to consumers.

You guys really don't know how sad I am, as a new customer, when I think about them potentially shutting down soon. We talk about blind buys a lot in this thread; 13 of my 14 TT purchases were blind buys! I'm sure I've missed out on some great titles, and while sales are prime times to stock up on "new," previously unseen treasures, I want to feel the anticipation of waiting for newly announced titles, and the rush of jumping in on a title's release day to place an order as well.

Yeah, TT often has scant special features on-disc. But they always present a nice package, including a booklet with each release, which is something I really love about them.

*Edit: And posting here reminded me, so I just went and ordered this:

If you don't like TT's or someone else's pricing, don't buy; if you want to complain about it take it up with TT. While that probably accomplishes nothing, posting about it here certainly isn't going to change how they do business.
Since my original reply to you was removed, I'll keep this short: I have zero problem with how TT does business, and as long as they're around I"ll continue to buy their releases...at the prices I see fit. Thanks for your support!

Only thing at Kino that really irks me I was spoiled by their 50% off sale they did about a year and 1/2 ago, and then never have really repeated that. But what get my goat is the shipping threshold of spending $50 before taxes. then every time im trying to just that $50 im always a few cent short forcing me to buy a title i maybe dont want as much to get over that hump. THEN combine that with a hit or miss transfer, and i have yet to see some of the titles i REALLY want go below that $17 in any sale in the last 6 to 8 months.

I only purchased two titles, and these will be the last if Twilight Time wither away. I've really enjoyed their releases and own a stack of them so I'mm miss them.

The two I purchased were Next Stop Greenwich Village & The President's Lady (the sparks certainly fly between Chuck Heston & Susan Hayward in this spirited drama).

I think your complaint is a valid one, but for me personally I do believe that issues like this will seem like the good old days once streaming truly takes hold and physical media is relegated to just a handful of boutique labels. At that point, should it come to pass, we will REALLY see price increases all the way across the board. If so, some of the stuff we are prone to b!tch and moan about now might eventually look like nothing by comparison.

Lots of people will claim that I'm one of those "sky is falling" types with this post, but who can still say that physical media has not diminished in the last couple of years? It will still exist in some forms, but to be honest, as much as I might share some of the complaints of labels now, I also think we've still got a good thing going. In other words, don't sweat the small stuff and continue building your collection however way you can, while you still can.

At least they give you the option for free shipping; you know how many times I would have qualified for free shipping with TT titles or would have sprung for more titles if it got me there?

Complaining when you at least have the option is pretty silly.

I don't really feel bad for you. During the sales, Kino used to offer free shipping for orders over $100 to Canada. Then they scrapped that. I bought 7 titles in the "Moratorium" sale or whatever is was all at dirt cheap prices and paid a ton in shipping. It's still way less than what I could buy them for in Canada but if they offered free shipping again and made it a $200 threshold, I would gladly buy $200 worth of stuff because I'd rather get "something" for my money. Even it turns out to be a bad buy, I can always flip it on eBay.

If you like crime/neo-noir filmsand you haven't seen/don't own Cutter's Way, do yourself a favor and check it out before its OOP. Highly underrated.

Regarding The Member of the Wedding, I liked it for the most part, especially the last 30 minutes or so. But for me, the constant whining by Harris for most of the movie was really annoying. Seemed to be overacting just a tad as well, which grated on me even more.

As for The Egyptian, I missed out on that, so had to pay ebay prices. Don't regret it, as I like historical dramas and this movie is of historical interest as well.

I thought The Fortune was good, not great, and I thought Stanley and Iris was just ok, not good. The former is fun if you don't expect too much from it, the latter played like one of those Hallmark Hall of Fame issue-of-the-month dramas.

I enjoyed The Fortune. I'd say it's worth it for the price.

A few pages back, I posted about the joy of blind buying titles. Cutter's Way is, hands down, my favorite Twilight Time blind buy. What a fantastic film.

I really hope that TT will find a way to keep going - from the start I have been picking up most of their titles around release day (many of them blind buys) and would miss them if they quit what they’re doing.

Kind of interested in Cutter's Way. Is it a mystery film at all?
