What? The Hound of the Baskervilles and Hardcore sold out. I missed out on those. I picked up The Valachi Papers, Murphy's Law, From Noon Till Three, and The Stone Killer. Bronson is one of my favorite actors so it was a no brainer. Tempted to buy more. Any recommendations?

I'm a little confused, is it better to buy from Twilight Time directly or from Screen Archives?

In my opinion, Twilight Time. They have slightly lower shipping costs and a $2/title coupon if you reviewed a previous purchase. However, SAE does still have some titles in stock that TT does not.

I’ve been slacking since TT started having sales, I backed off buying the monthly releases day 1. So during the last sale I snagged 18, and early today or late yesterday, I snagged 20. Still need 60. But that can’t be done in a month with other companies sales and OOP stuff. But I’ll try my best.
My issue is I’m now a sudden western fan. Never picked them up aside from Tombstone and a few modern ones. Now it’s like crack. |

My first western was Tombstone. Then nothing else til Deadwood. Another gap and I believe it was Family Guy made a reference to West World. Then the big kicker for me was Red dead Redemption 2. That took me to Hell on Wheels and High Noon, Hannie Caulder, How the West was Won. The southwest and old frontier architecture also bring me some sort of peace. The desert was always a place I found comforting. Still not all in on John Wayne yet. The western episodes of Twilight Zone are now some of my go to lately.

Accompanied by the line ... "Fill your hand you son of a beech!"
I don't remember which western was the first to really grab me, but being an older guy, odds are that it was a John Wayne movie. Maybe McLintock! (... although I saw many old B&W westerns on TV while growing up too). |

As someone who's never bothered with Twilight Time in part due to the lateness of my arrival on the scene, the price, and the fact that, by the time I got to them, many of the titles I was most interested in had been released by other companies like Indicator, can someone describe to me the actual quality of their physical products? From the sounds of it, this is (was) a rather small operation. What is the picture quality like compared to other companies? The supplements? I must admit my impression of the label is like a mom and pop shop with those who run the label themselves producing a lot of the supplements, and that makes me wonder how valuable they might be rather than turning to experts. I'd be open to having my mind changed.

If there are titles you're interested in, now is the time to get them. This latest sale has "liquidation/going out of business" written all over it, so it would be best to pick them up now, as more and more releases are going out of print--and many will likely never see another home video release. |

My Go To Western from John Wayne is undoubtedly The Searchers. It is such a grand and deep picture that moves me every time that I watch it. I thought it was slow when I was young but became a huge fan of it when I turned 30.
The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance is another favorite along with Stagecoach (1939). |

Actually, it was a few TV shows that did it. I mean, I liked me the "cowboy" films when I saw them on TV, but it was Maverick, Rawhide, and Have Gun, Will Travel that really made me a fan of Westerns.

I honestly can't remember ever not being a fan of westerns. My father's favorite film ever is "High Noon", so I'm pretty sure I saw that before I ever even saw "Star Wars". "Shane" would've also been a very early one, and probably one I responded to more, the kid is a good in for a kid, and also everybody loved Billy Crystal and, by extension, "City Slickers". "Unforgiven" was also a big milestone, because up until then, westerns felt a bit dated to me, it didn't feel like a modern genre (not that I could've expressed it that way). "Unforgiven" felt like a movie that was a contemporary of "Reservoir Dogs".
