I hadn't been following Twilight Time closely for a while. There is a video store here in Vancouver ( Videomatica) thar brings in many specialty titles, including TT titles, and the last couple years if I saw something there I might purchase it, even though their prices were not as good as what can be found online.
But this whole pandemic has had me at home more than usual and doing more online shoppong than usual, even though Vancouver hasn't been as hard hit as other areas, and so we haven't been ordered as strictly in place. When I saw SAE's sale in March I put in an order and got it pretty quickly: The Tall Men Beat the Devil You'll Never Get Rich My Sister Eileen How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying I really wanted The Tall Men the most out of all those because I love Jane Russell. I enjoyed the film, but thought the picture quality could have been better. I guess an older scan? You'll Never Get Rich is one of the last Fred Astiare films I have never owned or even seen. It looks great, but I think it is not as good a film as his other picture for Columbia with Rita Hayworth, You Were Never Lovelier. I rewatched my old dvd of that after, it is ok picture quality for a film from that era, but too bad it hasn't been released on blu-ray as it is a much closer in quality story-wise to his pictures with Ginger Rogers. I shouldn't complain since so few of Astaire's films are on blu-ray & even masterpieces like Yolanda and the Thief are only available on Warner MOD. How to Succeed... looks stunning! I think I last watched this film over 20 years ago on VHS. Robert Morse is great, it is fun to see an older Rudy Vallee, and Michele Leee is a stunner. What a shame she didn't have a bigger film career! She did star on Broadway in the 70's in the show See Saw, a musicalization of the play/film Two For the See Saw. Her televised Tony award show performance from it is something to see: Seeing Bob Fosse in one of his few major film roles is what made me purchase My Sister Eileen, but I haven't yet cracked the celophane on that one. I am embarrassed to say that when I look through my dvd/blu-ray collection I have many still in their celophane, including quite a few now sold out TT titles. That's what happened when I used to more often put in large orders during sales. Despite this, looking through this thread, and reading about how TT is probably finished, I went back to SAE the other night & made another order. I guess I'm worried that some stuff will never be available again, or will be overpriced on ebay etc. I ordered mostly musicals, the Elvis pictures, but also a couple other things I hadn't ever heard of before like the Hot Rock - I thought I had seen all of Redford's pictures! Finally, I did this week aquire one "sold out" TT title that I have wanted for quite a while: the Bing Crosby picture High Time. A copy showed up recently on ebay at a reasonable price, about $30, & it arrived in the mail yesterday! As soon as I hit post on this, it goes into the player. I am waiting for the drop also . Frustrated I missed out on getting Manhattan Murder Mystery from Twilight Time before it sold out . I refuse to buy myself from SAE because shipping is way , way to high . Twilight Time IMO shipping is still a bit high but at least not as bad IMO . I have not seen much of Twilight Time getting items back in stock . They did on a few of but likely were returns rather than trans shipment from SAE to Twilight Time . I Hope they get some of the ones that sold out that SAE still has trans shipped to Twilight Time so I and others can get a better shipping rate and get certain titles . I would think and it's my opinion that if they are going out of business the quickest way to sell out of titles that SAE has plenty of and Twilight Time i sout of or has just a little the wise thing would be trans ship titles from one location to the other so when sales go on they can sell out of faster . If SAE decided to go back to doing far more reasonable shipping I would buy from them again . If not I will not buy from them . If Twilight Time raises their shipping rates I will no longer buy from either . Again just my opinion . I am however wondering what your thoughts & others thoughts here on this board in regards to the fact of who's deciding they simply will no loger buy from SAE because of the over priced shipping rates ? All the best ! |

I unfortunately pay for there expensive shipping option at SAE since I did have an order go missing a couple years ago.
I was inspired by some recent posts and picked up: In the French Style Peyton Place My Cousin Rachel Eye of the Needle Julia Crimson Kimono And also the expanded Far and Away score. Back in February I got: Sense and Sensibility The Emperor in August The Jackie Chan 2-pack |

That’s IF there IS another price drop. They might be in this for the long haul to try and get the most they can with these specific prices. It could also be possible when they decide this sale is done they look over their remaining stock and sell it to a liquidator or mega-scalpers.
Time will tell, we don’t even know for certain if TT is officially done as a label yet though all indications seem to indicate they are. But with so many unanswered questions, I just decided to bite the bullet and get everything I wanted now. I’m not rich and I too thought I’d be patient and wait for additional price cuts in the future, but after awhile I decided not to risk it. If there is a better sale down the line, so be it. Right now the peace of mind is worth more to me. |
