Welcome to the forum!

Obviously you’re a Widmark fan so I just wanted to ask you if you’ve ever seen MY PAL GUS? I just watched it recently on the Fox MOD DVD and I thought it was a really terrific film, dealing with issues far ahead of their time and doing so in a very heartfelt, charming way. I truly think it’s one of Widmark’s best, even if mostly unknown.

Agreed, very surprising, I just checked and there are currently still 43 copies of 10 Rillington place left in stock.

But is that scalping? It ensures movies are in stock for future enthusiasts who didn't luck out on getting these for $12. I think a B&M store selling them for $25 isn't too unreasonable, especially if they never sell or a better version comes along. Movie stores do provide a service.

The exact same things can be said about someone who picks up a few extra copies and sells them on eBay.

Or concert tickets... Either way, it's not cool.

Smaller stores are not going to tie up money by stocking multiple copies of low demand titles. Keep in mind that many of these discs have been out for several years, are the only Bluray versions in the world, and still could not sell 3,000 copies. It's only going to be worth it for the sellers that are relying on selling them off at greatly inflated prices as they may be sitting on a lot of these discs for a long time before finding buyers. You often see OOP stuff on ebay for over $100 but they may have to keep relisting the thing for weeks before finding 1 buyer.

Off-topic, but I've mixed feelings about ticket scalpers. When Adele came to Boston and my girlfriend desperately wanted to see her, neither of us could access Ticketmaster at work as the site was prohibited, and it is very difficult to do on a mobile - and they of course sold-out within about 60 seconds. On the one hand, I was reluctant to support scalping, but on the other, it was the only option open to us, and the one we took.

I picked up a copy in my last order.

It pains me to see these rare Grable blu-rays (I don't know of another company who put them out) still on the block. I did think it encouraging 2 of the 3 Alice Faye vehicles sold out (State Fair and The Gang's All Here) but Hello, Frisco, Hello is a wonderful film. Its still in stock. I guess we will see what the coming weeks will bring...or take away I should say.

Perhaps part of the problem with the Grable titles is that they aren't particularly good transfers, due to the fact that 20th Century Fox destroyed all their Technicolor negatives back in the 1970s? Blu-rays of Fox Technicolor films are never going to look anywhere near as good as the Technicolor stuff from MGM or Warners.

I'm not sure how swamped SAE will be. They aren't matching TTM's prices; they're still at the April/May sale pricing structure ($14.95 instead of $11.95, and so forth).

The only value they have for the next month and a half would be for titles that disappear from TTM.

But also the tickets would not have sold out in 60 seconds if not for the scalpers, necessarily. You could say the same about the TT scalpers... Now that a lot of these titles are sold out, you can still get them through the scalpers.

Stellar list! Glad to see some interest in "Garden of Evil", one of my favorite Westerns of the 50s. The transfer for "I Want to Live!" is exceptionally beautiful, and I've owned that films on VHS and DVD. It far surpasses the DVD, especially with the delivery of the jazz-laden score. Enjoy!

Thus, it's not easy to just listen straight through to many of these (unless the movie is scored almost all-to-wall), so it tends to be a more piecemeal experience, but it's certainly better than nothing. Those more tech-minded than I could probably burn the music cues to a CD, but I wouldn't know how to go about that.
The ability to skip from one section to another would ABSOLUTELY increase my enjoyment of the isolated score tracks. It's unfortunate that this wasn't implemented. Wonder if there are technical reasons why it wasn't done, or maybe an additional cost factor involved? Anyways...these tracks are still a nice feature to have, and the possibility to extract the isolated track and then re-edit the silent parts out is something that I may look into in the future. Good suggestion!

One that's still in stock that I'd recommend to anyone that likes gritty westerns is Lawman. I'd rank it as Michael Winner's best film.

All hail Hariseldon and Aclea and everyone else for generously helping me make smart buying decisions throughout the two months of this sale. The contributions here by so many have been invaluable.

I guess I’m finally done, my last buy including what I’m sure for many will seem a strange choice. It came down to THE GLORY GUYS or BENEATH THE TWELVE MILE REEF. Well, after some consideration, I chose REEF. But this is what might make it seem strange: I already have the TT Blu of REEF in my collection. After reading everything I could on GLORY GUYS, I just couldn’t get into it and so chose instead to buy a BACKUP copy of REEF, which is one of my favorites and quite simply one of the most beautiful Blu-rays I’ve ever seen. Strange? You decide.

That's a really good thought. Pin-Up Girl was pretty washed out. On the other hand, the transfer for Alice Faye's "The Gang's All Here" was stellar. I actually got to screen this transfer at the Alamo Draft House in 2018 and it popped. If time could only be turned back.

I think that Chato's Land is a much better western, but Lawman is a strong genre entry.

It's a pity that Winner didn't make more westerns, because as much criticism as he gets I think he was a pretty competent filmmaker when he wanted to be.

Also a pity that a more updated scan couldn't be used, since the TT Blu-ray looks pretty rough.

No, it would have been two minutes. I read afterwards that a quarter of a million people attempted to buy tickets for the show (venue capacity under 20,000). Realistically, most of these would have been fans, not scalpers.
