karma isnt' a "thing"

However, this kind of thing isn't difficult to prove if you take precautions.

Any time I ship or recieve a package worth more than say $600 you can count on the fact that I videotape packaing or unpacking. It is a simple process, once the transaction is truly complete, the files can get deleted.

I usually do this for personal packages worth even less, but above that amount there is no need for me to have the risk of loss.

If someone is sending something back as "not as described" I don't care if it was only $20, I'm videotaping the return and will use it against the actual fraudulent party if they are trying to take advantage of me or the system.

While I admittedly don't know how things work in the United States, if this happened to me in Canada, I would absolutely file a report with my local police department where it would be assigned to a constable for follow-up. It wouldn't get "put in a drawer somewhere" because all files are assigned electronically and have to be actively closed. It would be a pretty simple investigation too seeing as you have a known suspect with a full name and address.

Would something come of it in the end? Likely no, because even if you have a complainant acting on good faith, it would be difficult to prove legally unless the suspect is spooked at having the cops calling him to come in for an interview and "comes clean". However, it's still worth it because if there are multiple people filing reports about the same thing, then a bigger investigation could be launched down the road.

There would also be the option of pursuing it civilly within Small Claims Court.

I'm wondering if I some other titles should be put on my radar on the merits of cinematography. I know about the James Wong Howe films and Leave Her to Heaven. Off the top of my head, I can't think of any others that left an impression. I'm sure that there are many I haven't seen, though.

I guess I’m a sucker for CinemaScope, but you can’t tell me those movies aren’t gorgeous.
Yep, just familiarize yourself with the Fox CinemaScope catalog (any of the films, really) and you’ll be set. You may want to grab what you can sooner rather than later though due to original Fox no longer existing.

Haha, that's about ALL the LAPD does these days.

As far as internet fraud, it's happened to me where the buyer ripped me off on a $220 sale, claiming never received, which I found out later he had done numerous times prior to others (see below). I went through the US Postal Inspector, they won't do anything, but I wouldn't suggest to anyone not to contact them, or try the FBI as well. But since this transaction was in a different state, my local law enforcement couldn't help, and law enforcement in the fraudster's town wouldn't do anything, either. It's really a civil matter to them. I contacted the local police of the fraudster and his local USPS branch, the US Postal Inspector and all that, but no one really cares or does anything, at least in my case.

The only option given was to file a small claims case, which isn't practical when he's in a state across the country. And for $220?

I did find the scammer's name and very long scammer history afterwards on a "badbuyer" website that people can add names and incidents to. I suggest everybody contribute to that if scammed. I always search it for a buyer's name whenever a big sale happens. Also, take video of sending/receiving as others have said, and signature confirmation on anything over $100.

It's the wild west out there.

Hopefully TT has a few more westerns in store for us. They released some good ones, but plenty left to be released.

Well yes, I meant "put in a drawer" figuratively, not literally. As in, nothing would come of it.

Tell that to the people who are being prosecuted for copyright infringement, even if no money is being made from it.

Fox was just the US theatrical distributor. They didn't have any ownership stake in it.

Damn. I was hoping that wasn't the case. I was hoping it was FOX title because that could possibly mean that there are still a few FOX title to be released. I mean it could still be the case, just a bit more unlikely.

Unfortunately for you, I’m not pitiful enough to feel the need to utilise such a thing. I pray you have some other realistic dreams that may come true for you in your lifetime My apologies for the inconvenience kind sir.

Fox was indeed the original US distributor for Man from Hong Kong, but they only had theatrical and TV rights. No one knew who had the US video rights and AFAIK was never released on even VHS for a very long time. I suspect the Australian producers recently claimed all US rights and Twilight Time (under Screen Archives) were interested enough in making a deal with them for it.

Its not really protection though since most of the biggest idiots are the most often quoted members on here, I have a nice little ignore list going and yet I still have to see their incessant whining about delivery delays etc as I scroll

Yep, it would be nice if the ignore list also expanded to quote posts so I wouldn't have to see those I put on ignore which kind of defeats the purpose of an ignore list.

But it does offer some shield against the dog crap that lies in wait for you at every opportunity because at one point years before you dared to disagree with them about something. Since emptying my Ignore List as a gesture of good will over the holidays my same three old stalkers are once more clinging to the bottom of my shoes.

Anyway, back on topic. I don’t expect this new incarnation of TT to have the capital or contacts to necessarily secure any contracts with the majors, but it will be interesting to see what else turns up from them. I’m envisioning a small label output similar to ClassicFlix, but if they are sitting on some of the unreleased licensed properties from the old TT, as some speculate, that would be great.

It's difficult not to imagine that if the folks involved with the original TT thought there was any way to further the original mission, they wouldn't have held on to the name and did it themselves. Of course I know nothing about the business or whether there were any contractual obligations with SAE to give them the right of first refusal.
