The number of exclusive releases used to be even higher. Most of these are older, pre 1960s Fox films, often from the Cinemascope era. Cinemascope fans can't get around Twilight Time. For some weird reason though, German labels have been able to keep doing business with Fox after the Disney takeover, or still had some licenses from their Fox deals, which explains quite a few of the Twilight Time Fox films appearing there 2017-2020 or so. Strangely enough, I just saw in the database that a low budget label released "The Adventures of Hajji Baba" in Germany this year, which used to be a title previously exclusive to TT. Though the TT disc likely still is better. Perhaps the rights holder in Germany was someone other than Fox. With Columbia, some of the TT discs are still the only way to watch these movies. For example, "Man in the Dark", Columbia's first 3D picture, so far has not been re-released on blu-ray. Though over the last couple of years, Sony's own label in the US (e.g. "Bell, Book and Candle") or Indicator in the UK (e.g. "Edge of Eternity" or "You’ll Never Get Rich", more recently) have been putting out some of these TT-only gems, so I am hopeful that all of TT's Sony/Columbia discs will see official re-issues of some sort. MGM has always been very license-happy. With Sandpiper's low budget reissues, pretty much all of the old MGM discs must have been made available in some way or another. |

Roots of Heaven is available in France, Rains of Ranchipur and Desirée have been released by France's impressive ESC.
As for your evaluation of TT quality I would like to see where you are seeing TT putting out a better release then others. Every comparison I have seen TT at best only equals others in pq and is often bested. At least sandpiper knows how to do the correct gamma setting. While I do not recommend buying anything sight unseen I have been impressed by some French and German labels which is more then I say about TT. Last edited by Deadend45; 12-19-2024 at 10:35 PM. |

Screen Archives Entertainment just started a short sale on the remaining titles, which are 30% off the $19.95 price, or $13.96 each:

[Show spoiler] Not all of these are Fox titles, but several are. I figured this is one of the last times I'll be able to get them. Don't forget that SAE defaults to more expensive USPS First Class shipping, so be sure to click the option to revert to cheaper USPS Media Mail if you want to save a little more. With these 14 titles, I saved about $15 using the Media Mail option. Last edited by McCrutchy; 06-27-2025 at 06:39 PM. |

We'll see how that shakes out in time. |

Nice to see this thread pop up again. I do miss Twilight Time, or what it was back in the day. Still some gems on there to get at nice prices

I'm thinking by years' end of doing a top 100 Twilight Time releases to commemorate the founding of the company. Pound for pound no label released more stuff that i was interested in than them. Of the purchases I see above I can't say enough positive things about Hilda Crane, Wild in the Country, Anne of the Thousand Days and The Revolt of Mamie Stover. Unsung titles I'll also shout out kind words for include Yanks, In the French Style and Ten North Fredrick.

If you could give any feedback on The Quiet American that would be great. I've been interested in the title for sometime, but just haven't gotten around to it. Joseph Mankiewicz is one those directors who've I've never been disappointed in, though I admit I'm relatively unfamiliar with Murphy and Redgrave. My best hope for the film is a careful blending of tragic romance with healthy dose of political intrigue a la The Ides of March.

Great sale, but worst timing. It's so annoying that so many companies have their sales around the same time

Yeah this sale really blindsided me, but I suspect Screen Archives might have something in store for Labor Day weekend. At the moment I've allocated my budget for WAC titles, but I'll be better primed to nab Husbands and Wives, Mother Wore Tights and Kid Galahad later this year. Cheers to all the great titles purchased.

Screen Archives should be more of a presence on this website and remind people about these titles are still available, and especially all the 20th Century Fox titles.
