You could import the region B UK release for about $12, if you are region free.

I happily bought EXPERIMENT IN TERROR from TT. The OOP Columbia-Tristar dvd was way more expensive. The MOD dvd was cheaper but I refuse to encourage studios from selling what are basically bootlegs.

I do not have a region free player. Nor a BD player (or will I for a few years).

Super confused by that.

However, there is a German disc of Wild at Heart that is reportedly region free and ships to the states for about 15 dollars via amazon.de.

They have put up preorders a few minutes early, but as far as I can remember, never hours early.

Can anyone update on the quantities on the Sinbad films at SAE? I still haven't figured out the trick myself.

Thanks for not buying up all the copies, y'all.
I also placed an order for Bell, Book and Candle, since I've been on the fence for a while, and since I've heard they're running low. (I do not know how to check remaining numbers, though.)

Once again, thanks for not buying up all of the copies.

Yeah, as in literally 4-5 minutes early.

Thanks. Looks like they've really slowed down. I have Golden Voyage on my dvr since it aired on TCM last Saturday. I'll give that a watch and see if these films are my bag.

Yeah but still remember that is over half their stock and when this thing gets down to 500 they will go fast. If your interested I wouldn't be too lazy about it

It's just tough to swallow $60 on two films I'm not sure about. I was interested in The Driver and Sexy Beast and took the risk on those and I thought they were great. No regrets there. I watched Jason and the Argonauts recently and I thought it was alright, was mainly just entertained by the stop motion effects but that movie is cheap so it's worth it for those scenes. So far the only real pulls for me for these are the stop motion, monsters, Caroline Munro, and Jane Seymour. I hope to watch Golden Voyage very soon and that should help inform my decision.

If you don't like them, just sell on Ebay when they get sold out. You should easily make your money back.

Yes, over 1/2 their stock (minus whatever went to TCM), in about two weeks, and it hasn't even been released yet. The general public doesn't like pre-orders as much as intense fans, so many may wait until next week to order. If one waits for the "500" notice in an e-mail, they could possibly be out by the time that e-mail is received. [It's happened before.]

In other words: you are very right, if someone wants either of the Harryhausen films, they had best not delay.

Has anyone receive a shipping notice for the Sinbads yet?

When can we expect to see reviews for these Sinbad BDs (here or elsewhere)?

Not yet on shipping notices, though we should be receiving them in the next day or two, as I ordered the day pre-orders went live for both Sinbad movies. I'd imagine review copies should (should being the operative word here) have been sent out by now, whether anyone has written one yet is anyone's guess.

If you thought JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS was just okay, then you'll probably be underwhelmed by the two late Sinbad movies, which are not quite as good as either that film or the original SEVENTH VOYAGE OF SINBAD. The Harryhausen effects are the primary attraction of all of them, but JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS has the strongest story line. But both it and MYSTERIOUS ISLAND are a bit below FIRST MEN IN THE MOON, which remains my favorite Harryhausen.

As far as spending $60 plus shipping for two movies on Blu-ray (with a quality equivalent to a high-quality 16mm or decent 35mm film print), that is roughly the price of a well-used, fair-quality 16mm B&W dupe of one film, so it remains a bargain, whatever jaded Blu-ray buyers who are used to $5 bargain-bin discs complain about. People who don't like the films simply shouldn't bother to buy it at any price. People who like the films should be happy to get them at such an affordable price. A decent new 16mm print would be around $500 (maybe $200 for a used print) and a new 35mm print would be more like $2000 (though a used print might be more like $350-$1000, depending on condition). Shipping would also be substantially higher on any film print, especially 35mm.

If you like the film, then $30 is next to nothing to own it, along with a few bonus features. If you don't like it, then $5 is too much to spend. I, for example would not buy a 2-D Blu-ray copy of AVATAR for over $5 or a 3-D copy for over $15 (and wouldn't get a DVD unless somebody gave it to me for free), but I'll spend $30 easily for Blu-rays of CINERAMA HOLIDAY and most (but not all) of Twilight Times pre-1980 releases.

I'm looking forward to the Sinbad movies, Golden Voyage is my favorite of the three by a pretty wide margin.
