Now, of course I will watch the film before I fork over any money to "Twilight Time" for it, just to make sure it's something that will have repeat value with me. And honestly, I haven't seen too many of Woody Allen's films although I really did love "Midnight In Paris" and am eagerly awaiting the release of "Blue Jasmine" as I really want to see that.

You know, I think all of us can agree that if Twilight Time didn't limit their runs of films to 3,000 and came down on the pricing much more blind-buying would probably happen, in fact, if that were the case I would probably just blind-buy "Broadway Danny Rose." But, no "Twilight Time" is truly the most pain in the ass company in the blu-ray game.
Broadway Danny Rose comes from the period where Allen was writing an incredible variety of parts for Mia Farrow to play. You could be forgiven for not even recognizing her in BDR. It also has that melancholy that all of his films from the 80s are drenched with. There are laughs, but they aren't big or consistent, but that isn't a negative thing.

I personally love it to death. But I would be hard pressed to pick my top ten favorite Allen films. Which is honestly, a crazy statement to be able to make.

Also, I think it should be noted that while Woody Allen has an incredibly specific "instrument", he plays an impressive number of variations of his '1 part Bob Hope/2 parts Jewish Intellectual' character. Just look at the difference between his characters in Annie Hall and Manhattan.

Isaac Davis has a casual athleticism that Alvy Singer does not, and it is the kind of subtle character choice that most people would expect from a more respected actor. Danny Rose is a loser the way most Allen protagonists aren't. He is also unselfish in a way most Allen protagonists aren't.

Here's a question: What are the other Woody Allen's that TT has potential access to?

I do not know exactly who has the rights to which movies, but I'm guessing they at least may have access to the movies released in this collection:
Woody Allen 20 film collection.

I do of course hope that all his movies will end up on BD, but I hope that one of the next ones announced will be 'The Purple Rose of Cairo'.

I'm hoping for Radio Days and Stardust Memories. My favorites after Annie Hall, Manhattan and Mighty Aphrodite.

I decided to place an order for Picnic this morning, after being on the fence about it for a few months now. I love me some 1950s Cinemascope on Blu-ray.

Thanks for not buying up all the copies, y'all.

Yeah I'm hoping SAE will send these out early like they have most of the other Twilight Time titles.

I hope not. I think it's irresponsible when they do that. Some people (like me) have to time it right with their bank accounts. I arrange everything in my account to come out when it's supposed to and when they ship early they usually mess up my whole bill schedule.

Also really bugs me when they put the pre-orders up a few hours early. I wake up very very early in the morning to make sure I get my copies (I order every month) and one of these days i'm going to miss out because I didn't know to set me alarm for 4am instead of 5am.

Well then I would say go with Paypal. They take the money right away so you don't have to worry about when they will take the money.

Also I think you are safe. TT has never sold out of anything in 3 or 4 hours. Their quickest sell out was Christine and that was 7 hours. And now that they are putting limits on titles that should take longer.

I had my bank account set so that if they released early I'd have just enough that I'd be set. Then today Barnes and Noble took out 25 bucks for my membership renewal. Wish they'd give me a warning a day or two before they do that. Guess I'll just have to cross my fingers and hope they don't ship today and they wait til tomorrow or later. I would have used paypal, but I've been hacked on there 3 times, so I no longer have an account.

Thanks for the advice. I did post all that but to be honest it's not a huge bother which is why I only bought it up when someone mentioned shipping early. I'm not a big whinger which is why I think I rarely post haha.

As for paypal, they withheld $2000 i'd made selling me dvds on ebay because I had apparently been linked to a previous account that owed money. I had no idea where this connection came from as i'd never even used ebay or paypal in the past. They wouldn't release my money unless I paid the $600 supposedly owed and they couldn't tell me why my name came up in connection, just kept saying it was confidential.

I ended up having to pay it and they messed up the payment 3 times so it took 4 weeks for them to release the funds (and this was over christmas when I most needed the money).

They also prevented people who had won my items from depositing money INTO my account and I had to keep messaging these people for weeks telling them to be patient.

Basically it was the biggest nightmare and I lost money and my patience. So I no longer deal with that company!

p.s. apologies for the 'whinge'.

That PayPal action should be reported to the Attorney General's office, I believe in your state, and - if you know it - the state PayPal operates out of. To tell you that YOUR account is liable for money but YOU are not entitled to know the details of why is illegal. If it is your account you are basically the ONLY person who should have access to information about it [except those acting in a legal capacity, such as a court order].

For them to operate as they did with your money is also extortion.

.
I'm sorry if this is going to come across as judgemental but I often see this type of comment which always amazes me. If my finances were arranged on such a knife-edge that the purchase of one disc could send my bank account in the red, I would get a new hobby. One which didn't cost anything

I can't wait for these either. It would be nice if they release them early but if they do I will have to find some good sunglasses. That Golden Voyage cover is crazy bright!

No noise issues with mine. I think I heard the issue was resolved with machines produced later on as was an issue with overheating.

I do have a region free Sherwood that's noisy as hell and it chokes on almost everything. I regret getting this one.

Fair enough but I will say That there are ways to minimize any damage they might do. I have a seperate savings account with another bank that I link to so if anything goes wrong im safe.

Well, I finally sat down and watched Wild at Heart. It looks like I'm going to have to pay $30 anyway I can get it. Amazon lists the VHS as such, the DVD is $35, and this is sure to be the same.

Also, Jenny Agutter has full-frontal nudity. So that probably helped sell 1,000 units right there.

Some of the shock value it once had will also seem quite a lot tamer today as well.

I still heartily recommend the film, but I don't want to over hype it as some sort of sick, sleazy, or violent flick, as it isn't any of those. It's much more of a psychological character-driven mystery-drama that builds very slowly to its tragic denouement.
I didn't take your post that way. My taste in twisted story telling (movies, books, music, etc.) is much more towards psychological mind games than out right depravity, which does very little for me.

Your amended description has piqued my curiosity more than your first post. I've always enjoyed good dialogue driven stories over mindless action. For example: Mystic River is one of my favorite movies created this century. I think it's an excellent story about loss and personal justice. Thinking about it makes me want to experience the story again.

Anyway, I had to crack the joke in response to your joke.

Yeah, I kind of feel like a kid counting down the days til Christmas right now. That's how I felt in the days leading up to the pre-order.
