I know that people I talk to about movies know about it because we share common interests and point out movies to each other... but outside of that circle, I've almost never heard it brought up... and I had a devil of a time finding it on DVD back in the day.

Australia Dance me to the end of love... The First Nudie Musical

Are all Twilight Blu-rays limited edition?

I ask mainly concerning "The First Nudie Musical", which doesn't have the limited field in its description page.

Be nice

The First Nudie Musical wasn't released by Twilight Time. It's just also sold on the screen archives website cause some of the people that work either there or twilight time produced the blu-ray and its special features. (This is mostly correct, I could be wrong about a few of the details though).

So yes, all limited except this and the fox classics they've released like Grapes of Wrath and Zorba the Greek.

I don't think Grapes & Zorba are Twilight Time releases.

People wanting certain titles on Blu-ray has nothing to do with OCD. You either pay the $35 to get the film you want on Blu, or don't and just enjoy the DVD.

Yeah I meant those two plus Nudie Musical aren't Twilight Time, so aren't part of the limited edition model

I think a person with debilitating compulsions would give everything to have a blu-ray buying compulsion instead. OCD really isn't a joke, it is a serious condition that can cause severe depression. It irritates me the way people talk about it.

To my knowledge, Twilight's business model hasn't changed. If you can prove otherwise (via fact), I would like to see it.

There is no "fleecing" by Twilight Time. A company that is "fleecing" the consumer at large, is a company that is not honest as to it's product and it's price. Twilight Time has been straight-forward about what it charges for the movies they make available, and their business model (read: intent and purpose). Not the choices of release by Twilight Time does not constitute "fleecing" (read: fraud).

Twilight Time is in the business to make money. In order to make a profit, they are trying to select films (that they has access to) that will possibly appeal to as large a fan base as possible. If the movies they release do not sell well, they will either adjust their business model so that they can compete in the open market, or they will go out of business. It is that simple. What many members here clamor for release wise, may be too small "niche" wise, to effectively earn a profit on Twilight's behalf, thus preventing them to release other movies.

In regards to OCD, I agree with you. Too many people on this forum appear to use a real mental disorder out of context, in order to try and justify their own preferences.

You mean all of your Australian mates can afford to buy it for you.

Probably no different than the welfare system in the US. Ultimately, it comes down to what you choose to purchase with the money your given. Since no one can buy everything everyone must make trade offs and choices on how to spend the money they do have. Some determine it's worth it to do without X in order to buy Y where as others decide they'd rather have Y then to give it up to purchase X. It just comes down to a personal choice.

To be exact, The First Nudie Musical has nothing to do with Twilight Time or Screen Archives, other than the former's co-owner directed the making of documentary that's included on the Blu-ray (and was made in 2002 for the DVD), and the latter selling it (they also sell the limited edition CDs of Kritzerland, the label that DID issue the Blu-ray of Nudie).

That film is actually coming out soon in Germany via Fox, so I expect it will pop up in the US before too long.

I think this and "Flight of the Phoenix" would be perfect films for TT to release. They would both appeal to TT's fan base (movie fans 40 or older) and both DVDs look horrible (so an upgrade would a huge welcome).

Canada Re: Fall TT Releases...

...my first reactions to the recent round of announcements:

The Sound and The Fury (1959) - I get this. It fits the TT profile to a 'T', having been out of circulation for decades and totally MIA on DVD (heck, home video in general...I don't even remember a VHS tape of this title). It also features a well-regarded Alex North score conducted by Lionel Newman, which makes it ideal for isolated presentation.

Steel Magnolias (1989) - I don't get this one though. It's neither an obscure, lost-in-the vault gem, nor a modern classic begging for premium presentation and reappreciation. Everyone does a decent enough job here, but it's stunt casting, an awards-gimme project engineered to produce at least one Supporting Actress nominee (which it did). A good movie, but fairly forgettable (I have). At least it has a lively Georges Delerue score, otherwise, it's pretty much a head scratcher in this collection.

Enemy Mine (1985) - I not only get this, I predicted it. Before the Blu-ray.com boards crashed, this was among my short list of Fox science fiction titles I thought *might* be on TT's radar. Glad to see that guess paid off. This project had a problem-plagued history, starting life on location in Iceland under director Richard Loncraine, then going way over budget under Wolfgang Petersen who insisted on basically starting from scratch filming entirely on massive studio sets. Nevertheless, it's a fine picture, with terrific performances, and an ending that is still one of the most spectacular and moving in science fiction history. Although underperforming at the box office, and critically underappreciated at the time, it is ripe for this type of retrospective high definition showcase...especially since it features a superb score by the legendary Maurice Jarre.

Night of the Living Dead (1990) - Just plain "W-T-F"?!? I get that this was a decent Romero/Russo remake and all that (although honestly I can't recall if I've ever seen it, whatever that tells you), but geeeeze-Louise, isn't this exactly the kind of second or third tier genre title that Mill Creek is supposed to be doing? What is there about this movie that could possibly warrant a premium, limited edition Blu-ray release? The opportunity to listen to the isolated score by vet composer Paul McCullough? Yeeeeesh, what a waste of a TT release slot. Hope they at least get a quick sell through out of this one.

I remember here in Australia, when I rented Manhattan, the film was letterboxed on VHS.

Come on! That remake was great, the finale is far from perfect like the original, but the movie itself is really well made. I'll be happy to add that title to my collection! I was waiting for it!

Like Fright Night before, I don't think it is limited to 3,000 copies to generate a Prestige Limited Edition, but it's more Limited to 3,000 copies because it's a title that has not great selling value.
