Guess I've been under a rock lately.
All this undue hype about The Blob and I wasn't aware that they were releasing The Vanishing.
Ordered it so it can have a home next to my Criterion copy of the original.

Thoughts on The Vanishing? Absolutely loved the Criterion release of the original from the Netherlands (Spoorloos). But I am not a fan of re-makes. There are a few...very few...exceptions. Anyone that has seen both care to share an opinion? TIA

I saw it a bunch of times in the 90s on HBO and the like. I remember it being okay, but the original is far better. Unless you have an aversion to foreign movies, which obviously you don't, I would just stick with it.

Then again neither is the sort of film I would purchase, personally, so my advice might be mismatched.

Agreed.

It completely strips away the chilling suspense which made the original film so great.

I enjoy both of them. Two different takes on a story done by the same Director.
I prefer the original, but really enjoyed the score & Jeff Bridges performance in the remake.

Reminds me a lot of the movie Insomnia. The original is also better, but the remake has it's merits.

Remake is awful. But has the odd distinction of being done by the same director as the original (who just passed away).

The Criterion is the one I'll get. The TT one just isn't a good movie.

Anybody know how long they estimate The Blob is going to take to sell-out?

A friend of mine said it should be same as Christine. Is this wrong?

They dont even have a low-level warning for the title at the moment.

Yes. It was under 5 hours according to the site.

On a sidenote - does anyone know if its possible to cancel an order with TT?

I checked under my order details and there is no cancel button.

Wow... I just placed an order for two copies of The Blob, and one copy of The Believers (extra Blob is for a co-worker). Came to $38 CAD each shipped with the damn exchange rate

What's interesting though is when I first added them to my cart, it said beside The Blob: Limit 3 per customer, and while browsing the site for possible extra items to add, the description changed to limit 1 per customer! So I checked out right away.

Hope I still get the two for us!

Check your order history and email receipt. If the description says "limit 1" on your receipt and you've ordered 2, it will likely be cancelled. I'd call and straighten this out, or you could end up with no Blob.

Checking out "right away" after you notice the limit change doesn't seem to matter. It went to 1 before you checked out... so I don't think they'll let you have 2.

Well Christine was a different situation. The Blob has been given an extra 2000 units (so 5000) and also Christine initially did not have as strict of limits on per customer purchases.

You have to call them to cancel an order.

You have to email them or call but they will do it.

Yeah, it says the limit 1 beside the description on my receipt. I've e-mailed them to let them know that changed while it was in my cart... we'll see what they say. I've asked them if 2 is not possible to just cut it down to 1 instead.

Edit: They just e-mailed me back saying; "I have canceled and refunded the order- please place it again with the one copy again online - thanks"

I'm sorry, but how exactly would they estimate that? Wouldn't they have to know how many people are going to order it in order to predict how long it'll take?

Christine was an aberration. Of the 19 titles currently OOP, only 3 of them sold out in less than 2 months. Christine was the only one that sold out in less than one week.

Plus, they pressed 5000 copies of The Blob instead of the usual 3000.

Probably because there are still plenty of copies left.

I'm not sure why anyone gets anguished about how long it'll take any title to sell out. If you really want a copy, and want to make sure you don't miss out, then just go ahead and order it now. Then you won't have to worry about it.

Hmm.. I was going to cancel - but seeing as how its limited to 1x per customer now I think I may keep the extra copy of Blob that I ordered.
