I've just been waiting until there's a signed promo offer on a title I want, I end up getting five titles including the promo for @ $24 each so a little cheaper that full price.

Yeah, there are a few I might get at $15 or $20 that I would never get at $35. At $35 I'm only to get absolute faves or quick sellouts I know I can sell if I want to and get my money back.

or some of the new titles are more desirable, and push other titles lower in priority. I know myself, I try to order some of the older titles on every pre-order, but the list just keeps getting longer, the ones that get a low quantity warning get bumped up in my virtual queue.

Well that's what I mean by more excited about them. They are movies he is more eager to own. I have a 300 items long wishlist on Amazon of stuff I'll get around to eventually, but I often buy new-releases because they're movies I want more right now.

Yes your right, my wish list is also quite long, and with all the new titles announced by TT, Kino, Olive and regular new releases, it's going to put a lot of pressure on my limited funds.

There are several titles on the endangered list that I imagine they thought were going to sell out by the end of the year (As Good as It Gets seemed like it should've sold out by now, as did Our Man Flint), but yeah, 10-15 of them seems like a stretch.

Since my budget is limited, I may never order them before they sell out or expire. In a sense, TT is competing against itself. There is a limited market for these boutique items and TT may be saturating it with their own product.
Makes complete sense. TT even mentioned this a while ago, being very wary of increasing monthly output so that newer titles don't start cannibalizing sales of older ones (in so many words anyway).

Another reason titles may not be selling out as fast is people such as yourself hoping/holding out for another sale. They may not have one, but now that they have, it increases the chances that they'll have another.

On the other hand, if one is hoping to snag some titles for free (via the signed copies offers), these are more likely to be newer titles than older ones. So there's an advantage to paying for some of the older titles, and hoping that some of the newer ones can be gotten for free.

Especially if the rumors (which I'm still not convinced of) of them having to destroy unsold copies of the Sony titles are true.

That's part of the purpose of having limited edition in the first place. People put off buying older releases all the time. Why? Because so many new ones come out to get their attention. The new releases are what everyone is talking about, so the older ones get put on the back burner and often never get purchased, because there's always something new and exciting to take its place. Personally, if there were two titles that I wanted equally so, I would give the nod to the one that just came out (future price considerations aside), so that I could share in the "buzz" of others who also just bought the movie and are discussing it in the forums. As for the other movie I "rejected", I would probably buy it when a low quantity alert comes out, for signed promo fodder, or if it goes on sale (4th or 5th anniversary?)

That's what I do as well. I buy nothing from TT unless I get a signed promo copy with it (exceptions being quick sellouts like The Blob or Fright Night). I think $24 per movie is a good price considering one of them has an autograph on it. How many other labels offer autographed movies anyway, at any price? (besides home brew horror flicks). It's such a unique purchase, that I would much rather have that deal, than to buy 5 low-selling movies for $100 during a possible future sale. So if a sale comes along and I'm "stocked up", then I won't feel like I should have waited for a few of them.

I would be shocked if they did that and pulled it from stock with no prior announcement. But stranger things have happened.

It really is, I mean the last two orders I put in were because the promo title was a title I wanted to buy anyway, but to get a FREE copy autographed by someone involved in making the film is a huge bonus! I enjoy both Lalo Schifrin and Ron Shelton's work so to have a copy autographed by them is fantastic. I hope for all the criticism people throw TT's way they realize that to do this, Nick and Brian are either calling in favours or spending more of their own money to get these people to do that. And they're doing that each and every month now, sometimes more! I for one am so grateful that they do this.

I never seem to luck out on the signed promos. I have missed out on several now. I did hit the sale pretty hard and have 6-10 titles I would bite on if they do another sale again.

3 of the last 4 promos have lasted longer than 24 hours, so luck wasn't necessary on those, just being aware. Hopefully you scored on one or more of them. I had to pass on the last two because I couldn't find four movies that I wanted to buy in order to qualify. But with the latest preorders I'm ready for the next one.

Thanks for the tip. I have not tried in quite awhile. The last one I had a promo in my cart but then lost it when I went to pay. That kind of soured the taste in my mouth. The sale was much for egalitarian in that it was there if you had the cash. I actually bought twice during the sale.

I will keep my ear to the ground for the next promo and try again.

Problem is, none of the titles they release are new movies, just new releases. Logic would dictate to buy the older ones first so they don't go out of print (with exceptions). Whether or not you buy Broadway Danny Rose the first month it comes out or 6 months later won't make any difference. There's relatively little "buzz" on films that were made 30 years ago. Again, people can do what they want, but That's why I'd laugh if you were enjoying talking about all this "buzz" for 2 whole pages while the title you should've bought went out of print.

They have separated the signed promo offers from pre-order day. The last few have lasted long enough for me to get home from work in the evening, take my time to decide which titles to add from my wishlist and complete the process with no pressure.

It makes sense businesswise too, when they had them on pre-order day, people who were buying all the new releases were snapping those up too because they're spending the required amount of money anyway. Now, the promos are lasting a tad longer because people are actually going back and picking older titles they are interested in just to get the free copy.

They have been giving the heads up about 2 days in advance, and it likely will be on a Wednesday at 1:00 PM PST. Good luck next time!

Even catalog releases on Blu-ray generate some buzz in the forums. That's what I was talking about.

I think you are overstating the threat of a TT selling out before once gets a chance to grab it before it's gone. Several movies have been on low quantity alerts for months and haven't sold out yet. And they generally get a 1 copy per person limit when they do get to a certain point (perhaps under 200 or so, depending on the title and how quickly it is selling). So unless somebody goes on an extended vacation with no internet they have no reason to miss out.
