I am interested in all 5 this month, but ow ow ow my wallet's been hurting. I need to wait until after my next credit card payment. They're solid titles, but none of them struck me as quick sellouts (hopefully I'm not wrong about that!)

I'll be surprised if any of them sell out before at least a year has gone by.

No excitement or slow servers today.

I got Lenny and Love and Death.

I'm probably out for awhile. The three I'd be interested in over the next two months - The Bounty, Journey to the Center of the Earth and The Remains of the Day - I already have. I'd rebuy only if there was a significant upgrade (possibly the JttCotE 4K restoration?).

After all even the content is Digital and they can produce 3 million at exact same quality and sell it for $10 if they wanted, it's not like they only had enough material to produce 3000, but like the packaging "limited" is another marketing ploy
Do you say the same about Criterion or Kino which are typically in the $18-30 range? How about Shout Factory or any other number of niche labels? Their packaging isn't much different from the $5 bin either. Packaging is relatively frivolous in the big picture. Twilight Time does no less than the other niche labels - and most of them actually don't even bother including a booklet. Even Criterion (the king of booklets) has been going to cheaper "leaflets" lately.

Ultimately it's the content that counts - and I don't see how anyone can complain about what Twilight Time has done since their inception. Now, their releases aren't automatically "better" than titles that are in a $5 bin. It really depends on how that film ends up in the $5 bin (i.e. was it a studio that printed up a billion copies of a high quality release, or was it something from Echo Bridge intended as a bargain bin special from the start) It's a more valid complaint to compare Twilight Time's prices to their peers - outfits like Kino, Shout, Synapse, Criterion, etc. that are all somewhat more exclusive and low volume. Certainly they are about $8-12 more expensive vs. the competition without any real justifiable reason from the consumer point of view. However, if someone really wants a film, that difference shouldn't be enough to stop them.

The *ONLY* annoying thing from Twilight Time is the OOP aspect. It hasn't impacted me because I stay on top of their releases, but I can imagine it being annoying to miss out on a title that sold out in 1 day or even a few weeks. But that is only a small set of their overall history of releases.

It's possible Sony would have licensed it out to SF, but not guaranteed.

In the end it comes down to Sony licensing the film out instead of releasing it themselves. That's all on Sony.
If Sony can make more profit by licensing out a film rather that releasing it themselves, then that's what they'll do. You can't blame them for trying to please their shareholders.

If anything blame the consumer for not buying enough Blu-ray catalog to begin with.

It's not a stretch at all to say that Sony would have released Fright Night if not for other distributors offering them a deal they couldn't refuse. Horror movies do relatively well on Blu-ray and DVD, and mainstream horror movies do even better.

And after all, they did release it themselves in Germany. So it's not like we should be thanking TT for bringing a movie to market that otherwise would not have been available. You can thank them for bringing such movies as Swamp Water, The Egyptian, The Wayward Bus, Conrack and many others. Those probably would have never been released on another label. But not Fright Night (among others as well).

I placed an order for Lenny.

To bring this down to the lowest denominator, Lenny was the first time that I ever saw a nude scene in a film during my childhood. Ahhh...memories. I also remember it being a depressing flick, but, oh well...

TT should offer a "Free Shipping for any order of $50+" once a month whenever the new titles are up for order. Any thoughts? I think this would entice more order frenzy once a month when new title are released.

Free shipping on orders over $50 (or $75, $100) I agree would be a good idea on preorders days, now that there is no free signed promo on that day to encourage a more brisk business.

According to TT it's delayed until late March or April since Fox is still working on the restoration.

Probably a dumb question, but do any of the non limited titles ever sell out? Im interested in St. Valentines Massacre, but would rather see if there is a price drop. Its a blind buy for me, but I like the trailer. Still 35 bucks on a blind buy is pretty risky.

Also when does the preorder start for The Bounty? Doubt it will sell out anytime soon, but who knows. Its a good movie that I have seen.

No, the sad part is Sony just offered Fright Night to Twilight Time, and they weren't even sure if they should take it (80's horror buffs they are not).

Except it's not TT's decision to make, it's SAE. Anyways, I don't see a need for it. The system isn't broken so no need to fix it.

I wouldn't be opposed to the idea as long as those that pay for shipping are the first out the door, it'd only be fair. Get what you pay for.

Even on DVD, Sony had no real interest in Fright Night. Not only was their DVD release bare bones but they actually turned down all approaches by the filmmakers to do extras for it because they didn't think it was worth it for the two or three territories where they thought there was a decent market for it (the US was not one of them). They certainly wouldn't have gone the special edition route.
