Most of the VHS tapes I did buy we're previously used rentals, although I occasionally paid $20 for new VHS movies, such as the Disney movies for my kids.

Yeah, so this is one old fart who still thinks $35 is a lot for a catalog blu ray, but I've paid it when it was something I really wanted. I don't regret the money I spent on Bell, Book and Candle, but I've also passed on some good movies that I might have purchased had the price been in the $15-20 range. For me, it's not about quantity, it's about value. My budget for video purchases is not unlimited, so I have to figure ways to maximize my dollars in terms of total quality of my collection. I'm not sure why some people have a hard time understanding that, but I'm done trying to explain it.
I'm not sure why this discussion/argument has to go on forever. I can't even remember if there was ever a time when people weren't complaining about the pricing of Twilight Time releases. It's a cycle that never ends. I don't understand why people can't just pay or not pay for their releases and shutup.

This is not directed towards you or anyone in particular, so I hope you don't take offense to it. I just happened to use your post as the one I quoted.

BRAVO!

(As a former caregiver, I couldn't let your comment pass by without somehow being acknowledged).

To add something TT-related, I bought The Song of Bernadette partly in an attempt to use it in a similar vein (... and the other part is that I enjoyed the movie too).

DUGGIE WALKER:

Thanks for the good news. THE THING is my favorite sci fi movie.
I hope Warner Bros. can add some commentary to the Blu-ray versions.

I really enjoyed The Song of Bernadette. It is a wonderful movie that rarely gets mentioned in this thread.

I am generally against using production stills for covers.
There are certain "rules" about covers.
You can use a production still in the booklet inside, or maybe on the back, but I think it doesn't work on a cover.

I agree. I think I've mentioned it in the past and don't like to be redundant, but the strength of The Song of Bernadette to me, was Jennifer Jones' Academy Award winning performance. This is a film that for whatever reason, I never forgot from seeing it on TV as a child. Looking back, I think it must have been because of Jennifer Jones' aforementioned performance. I didn't remember that Vincent Price had a part in the movie, so that was a pleasant surprise upon revisiting too.

On the technical side, I thought that the picture quality itself really stood out as a positive (for a 1943 film) , but I might be off about that as the review on this site gives the Video Quality only a 3.5 star rating.

All in all, I'm very happy to have it in my collection.

And even then, the lower price was $40. When they sold a shitload of tapes, the other studios realized that that was the way to go, and started to likewise drop their prices.

Before sell-through pricing, pretty much the only way you could buy movies on tape was to order them through a video store. It was only after the prices dropped to $40 or less that department stores and such put in a video section to sell tapes.
Let's not forget that the sell through pricing came after the rental window for the title was over, which could be months if at all before the sell through, they encouraged buying previously view cassettes to build your video library. It wasn't until DVD that they introduced sell through at the same time as the rental.

Yes that shot exactly without the any text except the title though and limited edition series at the bottom. If you have seen then film just look at the two actors, what they are wearing, the expressions on their faces and the body language. This shot fits the film to a "T"
[Show spoiler]One conveying stoic aloofness and the other love and passion.
Not to mention it's the original poster art and in most cases that's always right. To me the pic that TT is using is something better used as a back cover.

I wouldn't say the TT cover is better, just different. I like both equally.

They are holding them until all the items for an order are in. Which is what the OP is talking about.

It is unfortunate and depending on the length of the delay, I think SAE should break up and send out multiple packages for people to help avoid to much of a delay.
This is exactly what I said. They will ship your order as they receive the titles. If you ordered one title, they will ship it when they receive that title. If you order five titles, then they will ship it once they receive all five. Unless you paid them five shipping charges, you can't honestly expect them to ship your five titles at five different times. This isn't Amazon we're talking about here...

The last I've heard they do but reviewers get them at the same time as, or after, customers. Then you have to add in the review delay factor.

I just wish I knew if Twilight Times Remains of the Day was going to have an isolated score. If not I would just order the UK version for a lot less money.

You can look at my collection and see that I own many TT titles. If there's something that I want for 30 bucks, I buy it. There are some titles however where I will not buy unless they have another sale (such as Man From Laramie), and if it never goes on sale, oh well, I won't be getting it. There are titles that I have no problem paying 20 for, especially if they are blind buys, but there's no way I'll pay 30 for. I'd say having a sale once a year or every couple of years isn't going to obliterate their business model. They've already had one sale, and they've started reissuing OOP titles and they still are going strong. The only thing that happens is you get people on here that cry about having paid 30 bucks before or I bought an OOP original Fright Night for 250 on Ebay, how dare they have a sale or reissue something! So if your latest niche cult film comes out from TT you wouldn't wait for a sale, because it would be gone...plus it never would go on sale if people were actually buying it.

Oh and another big difference, the sale they had before was on titles that were not fast sellers. Criterion sales are for all Criterion titles...correct??? That's nowhere near the same thing where people plan on only buying Criterion titles when the Barnes and Noble sale happens, because that's all titles. A TT sale would be for slow sellers, I would guess something that has either just come out, pre-orders, and anything under 1,000 units would not be a part of the sale, just like the last time.

Yes, there are some but I can't check right now.
One of them I remember was that musical with Rita Hayworth.
I think they may be 5-6..
