Nope. I don't follow anime or manga and have seen only pieces of a few series, e.g. Eskaflowne.

I think the fact that they are still an obscure label is the biggest part. Let us not forget that they just launched a website a few weeks ago and their products aren't widely available in Best Buy, Barnes and Noble, and Amazon like Criterion. I have been collecting blus since 2008 and only just heard about them last fall.

I have to wonder... if Captain Harlock is their first 3-disc release, will that mean it has a higher retail price?

I would bet on it. Major Dundee was a 2-disc set and it was priced $5 higher ($34.95) than the others.

Given the Captain Harlock release will have both the 2D and 3D variant of the Japanese and International versions plus a 3rd Blu-ray of extras I'd imagine the release would be priced at least $39.95.

I mean I'm sure they lost sales of ST:TNG because they were priced so high. I mean it is hard to find a happy medium on getting the stuff out there to the consumer and earning profit. Studios want to make money and the consumer wants it for a fair price.
That being said, I'll never support streaming. I enjoy the tactile pleasure of looking at all the blu rays around my house.

And still can't believe that TT got Harlock. Craziness......

I can't believe they are saying no-one bought TNG bds sets. I was under the impression they had sold quite well.
very depressing news.

I mean I bought them but I know a lot of people that weren't able to because of the high price.

Yet they were half the price of the DVDs 15 years of inflation ago.

The simple fact is consumers have drastically devalued media since piracy and streaming started. This ain't gonna fly with a niche market, people are going to have to pay up for it to survive.

I wonder what the sales figures were for TOS compared to TNG. There were only three seasons of that one, so higher prices might be easy to digest but seven seasons of TNG, I can see that being a bit steep especially if they're expecting fans to buy them all up at once.

How many titles did you order? Just curious, as I had ordered five and those were shipped in a box but that was to be expected.

I've learned to always order a bunch of titles from every online vendor. Nothing worse then spending a ton on a title that arrives all beat up. Worse I hate when that happens with eco cases and someone punches a hole through the slip in shipping.

I hate that as well. My recommendation to tallrichard is to provide feedback to the Twilight Time support email address.

Twilight Time guys - will your release of Harlock have proper subtitles based off the Japanese script? I have the Hong Kong release and the subtitles on there are obvious dubtitles based of the English script since several of the character names differ from the dialogue. If you do have proper subtitles, I'll be happy to double-dip on your release.

This month, I only ordered one...Places in the Heart.

I have more than 40 of TT's movies so this was a light month.

SA always boxed them...

I assume they will use what subtitles they are given and I have a hunch they will be the same subtitles unless TOEI decided to make them again from scratch (which I doubt)

If you order a few titles they will. Any time I've ordered a single title, it's always arrived in a bubble mailer.

I would only receive a box from SAE if I ordered 3 or more titles. One or two titles would always be shipped in a bubble mailer.

That explains a lot, I was usually ordering 3-4 movies...but at least a bubble mailer will protect better than what Cinram/TT used....
