Ordered HOUSE OF BAMBOO off the Twilight Time portal to check it out. Never had any issues with SAE, but figured I would check out something different. Really wondering if I want to own GUESS WHO'S.

Gearing up for 3 titles next month and 2 in October.

Screen Archives charge will appear on your Bank Account when you first order it, after a couple days it will disappear. When they actually ship it they will really charge your card and the funds will really be taken out.

I am going to to a Twilight order in the next couple of days.

I'm think of purchasing The Night of the Generals as a blind-buy. How good is the film? I had never really heard of it.

Exactly, no one seems to get the terminology right. A pre-authorization, to determine your info. is correct, and to secure the needed funds for the future.

Haven't heard anything official, but I'm going to guess the next Saturday. The 1st seems a bit early for them.

Christ, has it really been two months already?

She's absolutely terrible in Summer Lovers."

The Pointer Sisters song is the key hit in the film. Well, maybe that's because it happens prominently at the end when ushers like me were about to go in to clean the theater. The movie isn't really a comedy. It's supposed to be a sexy menage-a-trois dramatic romp. It fails at everything, but it is a child of the 80's and it will satisfy many viewers on that alone. I'll probably buy it eventually.
I'm guessing that I'll be one of the viewers who enjoys Summer Lovers simply for the 1980s vibe of the film. I came of age during that decade, so a lot of supposedly inferior movies from back in the day have that effect on me.

Thanks to everyone who responded with yays and nays alike!

I rented Summer Lovers years ago and honestly don't remember it being particularly 80's nostalgic. I mean it definitely was made and takes place in the 80's, but it's not particularly "yeah 80's!" in style or plot, as far as I remember. Anyway, it's a solid flick. Not something I personally would purchase, but people into the genre enough to collect it should be happy with it. I wonder how the sexual politics would be seen differently if I watched it today.

It may not be "psychedelic hair, spandex leotards, and teenage sex-comedy 80's stupidity", but it's still definitely 80's. The soundtrack alone firmly plants it in that era, if nothing else. Total 80's fluff!

"We've changed our systems so that pre-orders will not charge your credit card or PayPal account until they ship. "

Well, your systems missed on mine. It's gone from an authorization to an actual charge. I don't mind since I have other vendors that charge in advance ( MusicToday ), but for those living close to the bone, this could cause them a problem.

Like I said, it's definitely an 80's film, I just don't think its "80'sness" is part of its appeal, like it would be with, say, Working Girl or Desperately Seeking Susan. It's been a while though, I could be wrong. I only mention it since its "80'sness" seems to be a deciding factor in him buying it.

I haven't seen the film, but I've been to Santorini and it's extraordinary!!

from imdb:
Quote:
The villa that the "Michael" and "Cathy" characters stayed at is located Oia, Santorini. It was purchased by a couple in 1987 and now exists as a gift shop named "Summer Lovers".
i think this is how it is today:

here is Oia:
[Show spoiler]

By the way, I LOVE The Blue Lagoon which is by the same director..

They also stated the following:

Quote:
Last but not least, you can expect your orders from twilighttimemovies.com to arrive faster this month due to changes behind the scenes at the warehouse.
Did your order status change from "Awaiting Fulfillment" to "Awaiting Shipment" as mine did? If so, then this isn't an error because that means the order has already been packed. Most retailers charge at the time of packing.

Packing and shipping are obviously two different things. Their glitch has not been rectified.

Every retailer on earth charges before they pack, not before they ship. Once the label is printed and the packaging is queued, there is no other point at which credit card information would be run. Therefore, if they didn't charge before packing, they would end up sending out free merchandise to anyone whose payment failed at the later date that they ran it. If your order is already at the packing stage because the discs are done (thereby allowing it to ship ahead of release), then that absolutely should have been a hard charge rather than a preauth that drops off...

I ordered House of Bamboo and paid via PayPal. The order is currently listed as "Awaiting Shipment" and my PayPal account has not been charged yet. I assume you used a credit card?

Yes.

I don't care when anyone packs, if it's not released until the 11th, then they shouldn't charge until they actually get ready to ship. I've dealt with far too many online retailers since 2007, for this to be the first time this has come up, and be considered the norm.

Completely wrong. The pre authorization guarantees them they will be paid.
One retailer who sends out days, sometimes a week in advance, is CD Japan.
They're not worried about not getting paid, because they know they will be.

A simple Google search on pre authorizations will help you learn these things.

If it's a huge deal then you could always wait until the titles are released to order.

A pre-authorization doesn't guarantee funds are available at the time of shipment. It does guarantee and temporarily puts a hold on the funds for a short period of time. However, once the pre-authorization expires those funds are released and available for the consumer to spend and there is no guarantee to the merchant that the funds will be available if they resubmit an authorization.

Mike is right, I've done many transactions with SAE and Amazon over the years and every single time my credit card charge only appeared when the order was shipped, not before.
