LOL I don't think TT can go back in time to get an autograph. He's been dead for quite some time. haha

I know but I was actually dreaming and wishful thinking that maybe they could get Jacqueline Bissett to autograph The Detective!

A complete lackluster lineup. At least it saves me busting out my wallet.

I haven't looked into the rest of the titles in the announcement yet, but just the fact that Mysterious Island is getting re-released is enough to make me happy about the announcements. I obviously missed out on that one the first time around.

I see no interest in Born Free?
I've only seen the movie once last year, and loved it!

edit: never mind, one more is interested.

I am so very pleased that Mysterious Island has finally been confirmed. Now if they would re-issue the Sinbad flicks I'll be set.

If you look at most of those films, they're in very few collections on this site, full of hardcore collectors. It's just that Criterion's higher profile releases move a shitload of copies and move into the collections of buyers who really don't buy from the boutique labels at all (i.e. the Fincher films, the Wes Anderson films, etc.) Criterion can use the leverage from those monster releases to put out a bunch of lower-profile films that don't sell much.
Like Video Watchdog, Criterion's taste for rewarding obscurities has actually turned me on to a lot films I might never have otherwise been exposed to. That has value for me. The Criterion titles that were misses for me were no big deal, because Criterion's high resale value means I can just flip the few I wasn't keen on.

Twilight disks are just those I know I want, and they're the only game in town. They don't inspire me to experiment. Though the one time I did, it was for a very Criterion-like title (RAPTURE). Which by the way, I really enjoyed.

I like these titles more than the Sept/Oct slate. I'll probably get Sense & Sensibility, Mysterious Island, 1984 and maybe a couple others.

Looking forward to both A Midsummer Night's Sex Comedy and now Shadows and Fog. I'm a Zelig away from unloading Woody Allen's Boxset #2.

Broken Lance I never saw, has a Great cast and love Spencer Tracy. I was hoping for Frank Sinatra in The Pride and the Passion 1957 Stanley Kramer ! Twilight has a few Kramer Blu rays out already. Maybe in 2016 ??

Speaking of Woody Allen, I watched his Love and Death last night. Funny stuff! I'm sure a lot of his references to classic Bergman films (and the like) went over my head, as I'm not super familiar with Bergman (and others), but I did catch a nod to
[Show spoiler]Persona
(even without having seen that movie).

So it's Ken Loach's Fatherland (AKA Singing the Blues in Red), not the 1994 one starring Rutger Hauer. Very disappointed about that. HTF have quietly changed their listing.

Looks like Mysterious Island and Born Free for me. I was hoping for 3 Worlds of Gulliver but maybe next year along with One Million Years, B.C? The last half of this year has been expensive with all the great catalog titles announced so two from TT is very easy on the budget

I wonder if there will be anything new for Mysterious Island this time around besides a clear case and I wonder if it will be a 5,000 count release?

Wow, two huge gems for me.

Broken Lance is near the top of my list of most wanted westerns still missing on Blu-ray. A stellar cast directed by the great Edward Dmytryk (The Young Lions, The Caine Mutiny, Raintree County, Warlock, Anzio, Till the End of Time, Crossfire, and Murder, My Sweet). Still waiting on so many of his films to get released.

Born Free is one of the most famous films to come out the 1960s. Based on Joy Adamson's book about her and her husband's life in Africa, it is the story of raising three orphaned lion cubs (one of which is the famous Elsa the Lioness) after their mother is killed in self-defense by George Adamson. The title song by John Barry is one of the most iconic in film history. Born Free was like a childhood rite of passage for me, having been exposed to it in grade school about 1970 a few years after its release. The book, the movie, and John Barry's score stayed with me for years.

Born Free is a marvelous film, folks. The Adamsons raise the lion cubs essentially as pets, yet as they grow the couple realizes decisions must be made about their future. Joy has grown especially attached to Elsa, the smartest of the three. How the Adamsons deal with their decisions, and what to do about potentially releasing tame lions into the wild, is the core of the story. Admittedly, Born Free consciously tugs at the heartstrings of its audience, but it is so much more than sentiment. It is a well done, beautiful, and sensitively portrayed tale that will awaken the sense of childhood wonder and imagination in all who see it. I am shocked Sony gave this one up.
