Agreed, disappointing. But I thought something was off because the 1994 one is with Warner Brothers, I believe.

Not bad. Count me in for Broken Lance and Shadows and Fog. Think I'll pass on the rest.

The title song by John Barry is one of the most iconic in film history. Born Free was like a childhood rite of passage for me, having been exposed to it in grade school about 1970 a few years after its release. The book, the movie, and John Barry's score stayed with me for years.

Born Free is a marvelous film, folks. The Adamsons raise the lion cubs essentially as pets, yet as they grow the couple realizes decisions must be made about their future. Joy has grown especially attached to Elsa, the smartest of the three. How the Adamsons deal with their decisions, and what to do about potentially releasing tame lions into the wild, is the core of the story. Admittedly, Born Free consciously tugs at the heartstrings of its audience, but it is so much more than sentiment. It is a well done, beautiful, and sensitively portrayed tale that will awaken the sense of childhood wonder and imagination in all who see it. I am shocked Sony gave this one up.
Well said. It's also sad that 50 years later, mankind has pretty much decimated the lion population from around 300,000 in Africa in the 1960's to maybe only 25,000-30,000 alive today. And that's just lions, not to mention the near extinct rhinos and other creatures we are wiping completely out of existence. BORN FREE was a much more hopeful time for African wildlife and it will be nice to revisit it instead of hearing daily about rich sadistic dentists and doctors killing these creatures off and posing, smiling with their dead bodies.

Sweet! That's eight more DVDs to the trade/sale pile - BROKEN LANCE, BORN FREE, THE DETECTIVE, SCORPIO, KINGS GO FORTH, SHADOWS AND FOG, 1984, and SENSE AND SENSIBILITY. I guess I'm down for pretty much the whole Nov., Dec. haul.

You jest, but I can see them getting Frank Sinatra Jr. to sign one of these. Hey, if George Stevens Jr. can autograph one of his dad's films, then why not him?

Still waiting on so many of his films to get released.

If you grew up with Born Free I can see it having huge nostalgia value for you, but I saw it later in life and found it, well, kind of amateurish in its execution and production values. That being said, John Barry's music is magnificent and I'm sure that was one of the major selling points of TT picking this up. Both the score and title song won Oscars. Quite a timely release too considering all this Cecil controversy.

You can get a sneak peek of the release in the House of Bamboo thread while you wait for your copy to be delivered.

I've never ordered a Twilight Time title. I'm interested in getting Sense and Sensibility, though. What's the process for ordering one? Where's the best place to pre-order a copy?

The November releases will go up for preorder in October. They can be preordered at that time at either twilighttimemovies.com or screenarchives.com.

The listing wasn't changed. The date was always there. Just an oops on the artwork.

The Detective is excellent (hard to believe now, but Die Hard started life as a sequel to Roderick Thorpe's novel), but for me the big news is the chance to see Burt Lancaster in the best disguise ever seen in a motion picture in Scorpio in hi-def...

Eat yer heart out, Robert Downey Jr.!

Mysterious Island is a definite for me.

Will research some of the others, but I think that's it, which is good.

To my eye maybe a slight blue in some of the pics but nothing terrible, certainly nowhere near as bad as Sixth Happiness or Best Of Everything. If they are accurate I'll be satisfied with it i think

It's unfortunate that they've got such a good slate right when the next B&N 50% off Criterion sale will be running. Because this is a really good slate. At the very least, I'd like four titles from each month. In order of interest:

Nov: Sense and Sensibility, Broken Lance, Shadows and Fog, Scorpio

Dec: Nineteen Eighty-Four, Mysterious Island, Kings Go Forth, The Detective

Chances are, though, that the only ones I'll order right away are Nineteen Eighty-Four and Mysterious Island.

It's worth noting that most of the information you need to know about ordering Twilight Time titles (where, when, and what) will be in the first post in this thread. If the answer to any question isn't there, then it's safe to assume that TT hasn't provided the info yet.

Or, if you don't want to wait, you could order the region-free UK disc, which is currently selling for $15 on Amazon.

oildude ... you should be a salesman.

I do remember what a big deal Born Free was, back when it was first released. The title song was everywhere! I don't know why I was even on the fence about buying this, but you just helped to push me over. Thank you.
