Definitely will be buying the 2 Hal Ashby films (Bound for Glory and The Last Detail) in January. In February, I'm in for Cowboy and Where the Sidewalk Ends. Already own The Big Heat, so I'll pass on that unless TT is putting forth a substantially improved package (new scan and supplements?)

No Warren Beatty, Julie Christie, Goldie Hawn, Lee Grant and Jack Warden in "SHAMPOO"? Hal Ashby, ya know?

Nothing for me then.

It is coming from Criterion at some point.

I wonder if The Last Detail is one of the titles they got from Sony in exchange for giving them back Christine.

The fact that they're listed together with a "/" and a single date suggests that they'll be a 2-fer.

Def in for:
THE BIG HEAT
WHERE THE SIDEWALK ENDS
COWBOY

Strongly considering (can anyone tell me anything about these?)
BOUND FOR GLORY
FROM THE TERRACE
THE HAPPY ENDING

The giallo is an interesting choice but I can't really find anything on this film.

Bound for Glory is a rather fictionalized and sanitized biopic of Woody Guthrie. Haskell Wexler won an Oscar for his cinematography on it. It's entertaining but I was looking for more about the real Woody Guthrie. Like many creative geniuses, he was an often complex and difficult personality and the film glosses over those aspects.

From the Terrace is a rather overwrought soap opera based on a bestselling novel by John O'Hara. It stars Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward, but that's about the only reason I could suggest watching it.

I have not seen The Happy Endng.

You should really consider The Last Detail. It's great.

I watched Bound For Glory a few years back and found it boring to be honest and overly long.

But of course - I just bought the French Cowboy Blu-ray...

Glad to see both of the Michener Hawaii films - and I'm sure they'll be releasing the uncut version of Hawaii. Both that and The Hawaiians/Master of the Islands are worth it just for the isolated scores.

I saw The Last Detail only a few weeks ago and it holds up astonishingly well, so it'll be nice to see a decent transfer. And Where the Sidewalk Ends and the two great James Garner comedy Westerns in particular are very welcome.

And before anybody jumps all over me, I'm not saying that ANY of these are bad films, just not anything I'm even remotely interested in. Glad for those that these titles will appeal to.

The Last Detail, Bound For Glory and The Big Heat are no-brainers, and I think all candidates for eventual sell out. My bet is The Last Detail will be next.

I'll be researching the others. Not familiar with many of them, but inevitably will pick up a few.

Thanks for the info on the other two. I'll need to mull those over still.

I love THE LAST DETAIL and own the DVD of it. I'm trying to steer away from upgrading unless I find it absolutely necessary, and at the TT price point I'm more interested in a) buying things I like and don't have already in any format or b) checking out something new.

Hope now March-April brings at least one biblical/Roman epic.

I'm glad they are giving the older films some love, but even as a fan of older films I think this lineup is relatively weak. Interested in the double feature and Where the Sidewalk Ends but not much else (at least not at $30). I already have The Big Heat.
