I had a feeling this title might sell fast. I've actually never seen it but I am a fan of vampires in general and I really like James Woods, so that was enough to warrant a purchase.

It's another average movie that is only selling because of the Carpenter name and the fact that other horror films form TT have sold out. I bought one, because it has some cool moments, but it's nothing that should be selling out in comparison to all the actually great and classic films out there that barely sell.

It's the kind of title that I suspected would sell a lot of copies right out of the gate, as all of the die-hard fans would snap it up straightaway in fear of it selling out from under them. So, selling about half the run in 48 hours is no surprise, but I'll be interested to see how long it takes the other 2500 copies to sell out. Both First Men in the Moon (down to fewer than 1500 out of 5000) and Zardoz (down to fewer than 2000 out of 5000) are still easily available. And even the 5000-copy reissue of Journey to the Center of the Earth was put on the Low Quantity Alert list a few months ago when it dropped down to under 500, and there hasn't been any update on that since then.

Went to place my order for John Carpenter's Vampires and a 2-disc case (Major Dundee). Well, the 2-discs are gone evidently...I only needed 1 of them..!! They were there 2 days ago. ![]() |

Adding my two cents to this debate...
I enjoyed John Carpenter's Vampires back in the 1990s, and I happily pre-ordered this Blu-ray from Twilight Time. I think that it's an utterly ridiculous film in so many ways, and I also do not think of it as "horror" in any real sense. What I like about it, however, is that James Woods just... Well, James Woods just rocks. He's so much fun to watch in this movie, and he pretty much carries the movie all the way through. Vampires is a good example of how one actor can make a movie worth seeing multiple times. Sadly, John Carpenter's next film, Ghosts of Mars, was a dismal failure in every possible way. If that one ever comes available through Twilight Time, then I'll just ignore it and let the kids snatch up all of the copies. Meh. |

Fortunately that's something you'll never have to worry about. It's already been given a wide release by Sony for quite awhile now, not exactly a glowing review based on specs though. Ghosts of Mars did suck, but it's actually been growing on me, I can definitely tell it's a Carpenter film based on style and storytelling.

With a few exceptions, I don't care for rap music anymore. I only like rap songs that are the main songs for movies and TV shows that I really like. A few examples are Friday by Ice Cube on the Friday Soundtrack, You Can Do It by Ice Cube featuring Mack 10 and Ms. Toi on the Next Friday soundtrack and Big Rich Town by 50 Cent featuring Big Joe on the soundtrack for each season of Power (a TV Show on Starz with Naturi Naughton that I tremendously recommend). I will accede that accolade to Vampires: it indeed did not suck nearly as much as Ghosts of Mars.
Please, everyone, don't push. If you all line up nicely, you'll all get your heads sliced off in turn. Thank you for your cooperation. |

In many cases, I think it’s simple, as in my case with most of the TT titles I’ve bought: Many people have a “normal” amount of interest in a title. A title they like, something they’d like to own sooner or later, aren’t necessarily fanatical about, and would typically buy on Amazon for $15 give or take, and would buy it at their own pace if possible. So when the *one and only* opportunity to get a title like this comes up via a $30 TT release, it’s simply a case of paying the premium because there’s no other choice. In other words, it’s not all hardcore fanatical fanboys and dispassionate eBay flippers buying these things. |
