I do agree titles, names and whatnot should remain in their original language. It always bugs me that we don't call countries by their actual names. Like, it's not Germany, it's Deutscheland. If I were from there it would annoy me people don't use the real name of my country. When I worked in Europe everyone said "American!" which was nice.

I've no idea where you're from jaaguir but what tickles me about all this is that it's a French release causing this consternation, as those folks are FIERCELY protective of their native tongue.

Apparently there was an Italian porn star called Moana so.....yeah. It got changed there too.

As for localised inserts (oo-er missus) Kubrick famously had the "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" typewriter pages done by some poor lackey in another four or five languages. People may think of the man as this tortured artist but he never forgot commercial concerns either.

I imagine they thought the italian porn star could be known in here too. Or maybe they did have other reasons for spanish speaking countries and they just used the alternate name and title in all problematic countries. Savvy old Disney knows it pays to have a B plan.
Just like Uncle Walt freezing himself so he can be reanimated hundreds of years into the future.

I thank God on my knees that American or any other foreign movies (with the excepetion of animation) do not get dubbed in my country!
I can't even imagine, it would be effing hi-la-ri-ous!!

I always watch everything in its original, native language (with the exception of Italian horror movies, I always prefer English but that's debatable), especially when it concerns anime! I consider watching anime dubbed in English an act of blasphemy!

This discussion is amusing considering that the film in question is about Clint riffing on the character that brought him fame in Italian productions that dubbed Italian dialogue into 'American'.

Context ... context!

I believe Kubrick had something to with that personally. I'm too "young" to remember it first-hand, and I haven't read that much about it, but I know it was sort of a big debacle and very controversial.

I also believe that Kubrick had all his movies translated to spanish for dubbing by writer Vicente Molina-Foix, instead of the usual hack translators that dubbing studios used (well, at least nowadays I'd say they're hacks, sometimes I think I could translate better myself... I guess they're poorly paid too).
I am Spanish and I've lived with the Spanish dubbing for The Shinning (El Resplandor) for many years since I got a certain knowledge of English and got my first Laser Disc player which could play Pal/NTSC discs. When I got my first DVD player in 1998 (a region 1 Pioneer player as I wasn't interested in R2 Pal/Spanish releases) I stopped watching all movies dubbed into Spanish, up to this day.
The Dubbing for The Shinning is atrocious, vile, bad beyond imagination. It was directed by film director Carlos Saura, who was a personal friend of Kubrick, and yes, the actress who dubbed Duvall, Verónica Forqué had never done dubbing before. The guy who dubbed Nicholson didn't sound as he had much experience either.
I haven't watched it in Spanish in ages since I got the first US DVD which is longer than the international version that is the one released in Spain. I don't think I'll be repeating the experience of watching it in Spanish some time soon, there are better ways of wasting time.

My Amazon order was not canceled. It even says release day shipping. Though the price is still $31.

Some long-time rumored movies have certain fields like release date locked so people don't keep putting in rumored dates. However, when they are officially announced, the lock stays on until a mod remembers to remove it.. This is the case on Unforgiven which has been locked since Oct, 7 2016 by MichaelR.

This site's database and such are closely tied with Amazon for financial reasons. That's how they make their money to support the site and keep it going.
