820 is quite after the disc boot. If it is loud then it is probably defective.

Now that we have a few owner members it would be nice to have a dedicated thread for the DP-UB9000.

You and a few other owners would be a nice way to start and participate in a dedicated UB9000 thread. I just received my second UB9000 a couple weeks ago and have been testing and working with my 1st engineering production unit since July.

there's no display that supports both Dolby Vision and HDR10+ right?...and doesn't look like there will be for the foreseeable future...so what's the point of Panasonic including them both in these players?...for those that have 2 displays, one with HDR10+ and one with DV?...they could have shaved $100 off the price

Can anybody tell me if the 9000 offers any improvements in Picture Quality over the 820??? Or are the differences only in the audio portion???

Obviously they want to cater to people who own either formats. Shaving HDR10+ is not going to do anything in terms of cost because it is license free.

Is there a large difference between the LX500 and UB9000 in disc spinning noise?

I hope that the difference in 4k uhd bluray disc spinning noise is large between the UB820 and UB9000. Because the UB820 was unacceptable especially in the first 15 minutes of the movie when the disc has to spin very quickly.

I suspect that maybe the upscaling in the lx500 is not as good as on the ub9000.

Hi, I've got both. I cannot notice it with naked eye, but my 820 is on a Sony A1 bypassed by a Yamaha A3070 whil my 9000 goes into a LGC8. So it wouldn't be fair to make comparisons.

Hello Giuseppe great to hear that you have both the UB820 and the UB9000.

Is there a massive difference when it comes to disc spinning noise between the UB820 and UB9000 when the first 15 minutes of a 4k uhd bluray movie plays? The 4K disc needs to rotate much faster then a regular blu-ray. So the issue is not regular blu-ray but only 4k uhd bluray movies.

I was very annoyed by the UB820 disc spinning sound when i played the The Passengers 4k uhd disc. So now i am upgrading to the UB9000 because of this issue. But i am getting conflicting reports some say the UB9000 is quiet while a german review says there is an issue with noise.

I think the noisiness depends on the discs too. I find some discs are noisier than others. I find this variation since the LaserDisc days. Now it gets worse as the discs are lighter and they spin much faster.

Regardless, however, I find my 9000 to be much quieter than my 820

I can deal with a little audible noise from the drive(2-3 meters) for the excellent video section that the reviewer said out performed both the Cambridge(Oppo) and the Pioneer.
The last sentence summed it up: “All first class: the Panasonic DP-UB9004 pulls out all the stops of his skill and climb up to the best ultra HD-BD player at all” —Masterpiece—

Ok sounds good enough for me that the UB9000 is much quieter then the UB820.

Thanks alot for helping me out.

Yes, for sure. I found that the UHD of Crouching Tiger made my UB900 sound like it was about to take off.

This sounds worrying is this Crouching tiger hidden dragon disc also a problem on the UB9000 despite it's vibration and noise isolation of the disc mechanism?

If the noise issue is a concern I would find it difficult to upgrade the 820 to the 9000 for $500...especially if you didn't need all the other tech in the first place.

I'm having a difficult time believing the picture quality between the 9000, LX500, and the CXUHD is discernible. They're all top flight players so I'd think the video comparison would be 99% similar. Anyone with experience with all three? Is there a noticeable difference? If you have a high end TV is the difference even less?

On ANY player that disc is insanely loud. Of course on the 9000 it’s less loud and even less loud on the Pioneer LX500. But picture quality wise I prefer the 9000

Yes but i have no other choice if i want the best upscaling and a quiet bluray uhd 4k player. I am not happy about it. I thought that the UB820 would not have this disc spinning noise but i was wrong. So now i have to go with the UB9000.

So the main reason is the lower disc spinning noise on the UB9000 but also a much better remote that has backlit buttons. And only a small netflix button. Also more features are directly available on the remote on the UB9000 instead of having to go into the settings to control them.

I also like the build quality which seems extremely solid and is surely a device you can be proud to show to your friends Although they will think you are crazy for buying such an expensive UHD 4K Bluray player.

The UB820 remote really is bad. In the dark i am constantly pressing that netflix button extremely annoying.
