I have a UB820, and I'm thinking of getting a backup player but need some advice. It's for my bedroom, so I'm connecting to an HDTV. Rather than buying a Blu-ray player, I figure I will just future proof myself and get another UHD player as they are now inexpensive enough.
I'm looking at the Panasonic UB420 and the UB150. The differences I can see are that the UB150 has one HDMI and lacks optical audio and wifi capability. Are there any other differences, or are they basically the same player? Just curious if I should go cheap or ultra cheap as I don't need the optical or dedicated HDMI audio for my bedroom. Thanks. |

A factory reset fixed this for me. Doesn't sound like the same problem you're having, but worth trying if you haven't already. |

Go in your TV’s menu and see if it has an Auto Lip Sync function to turn on. That’s supposed to be a feature of HDMI. If not, you can delay the audio in the player’s menu.

Anyone else in Canada with the UB820 have issues playing the first disc of Zack Snyder's Justice League 4K? My player won't even load it. Makes some loud crunching noises for about 20 seconds before saying it can't play the disc.

lol no. I did it 3 times and wouldn’t load it. I read people had success after cleaning the disc so I tried that and it worked! But still freezes to the point of crashing back to main menu when it hits the 55:09 mark

Hi guys I have a new query. Last night I put Color Out of Space into de player, a movie I’ve played many times before already. Well the movie started to show some minor pixellation here and there, so I checked the disc and there were these stains like fingerprints but not fingerprints, so weird. Then I checked the box and apparently it came from there like some kind of humidity. So I cleaned the disc perfectly (and the box), the played it again and the pixellation continued to happen, although not in the same places.
What the hell happened? what changed? I should mention that my Sony X700 had no problem playing it. Thanks in advance guys. |

It sounds like off-gassing or moisture from the factory. Sometimes if you clean the grease off the disc it just moves it around, so that might account for the different points of pixilation. If you've used a disc cleaner (or warm water and dish soap) in the past in might be worth trying it with the disc.

Hey folks. I recently upgraded my TV from an old 1080p LCD (approximately 10-12 years old) to a Sony A80J OLED. I also grabbed the Panasonic UB820, based on many suggestions here and elsewhere that I read.
I'm a little confused by the HDR Optimizer. I understand that when the 820 was new (2018/2019?), it was necessary because many TVs didn't do a great job with tone mapping. However, when I popped in Into the Spider-Verse and went to the climactic ending showdown as a test, it looked like the HDR Optimizer was very aggressively rolling off highlights that my Sony was able to properly tone map on its own. It seemed like the brightest brights were simply pulled down to nearly SDR levels. I was able to pause during moments of very bright action, and flipping the HDR Optimizer on and off seemed to reveal better highlight gradation and more robust colours with the Sony's built-in tone mapping tools. I am second-guessing myself, though, because folks rave about the HDR Optimizer built into Panasonic's players. With new OLED TVs, like the A80/A90/C1/G1, is it worth using Panasonic's HDR Optimizer, or are new TVs good enough at dynamic tone mapping that the feature is unnecessary? |
