The problem we have now is that even when they do have 4k or 6k footage, they down scale it to 2k for theatrical and standard blu ray release. Then re-upscale it for 4k discs.

That's why I expect we will see a lot of movies being re-released a few years from now with brand new 4k masters.

As for avoiding current upscaled releases, that's my choice, because I don't want to give my money to studios that do what I said above.
And as I also said, I expect these movies to come out again with better 4k transfers.

Too time consuming and too much money. These people are busy crunching time for current projects. You need to consider real world logistics not just your arm chair finger snapping magic happening vudu.

While I too want more, I'm satisfied for now with quite a few 2k movies and their HDR and WCG. The great news is that newer/better quality cameras that are now being used are taking 2k masters to new heights.

Exactly. Some films will simply never get 4K masters. It's sad, but true.

When all details are announced and USA doens't get the 4K Blu-ray, we can always add the UK one.

Yes. I can only imagine the laughs of an exec when someone in the home media department asks for a total 4k redo from scratch for home video, when the existing 2k DI was used on massive theater screens.

Default Top 3 MUST OWNS??

For BF I'm going to get a 4K TV and I'm wanting to know the top 3 must have 4K movies to get. I already know that I'm going/wanting to get Batman vs Superman and Wonder Woman.

The PQ is high on my list cause I want to show my family members the difference w/4K.

Pacific Rim
John Wick 2
War for the Planet Of The Apes

Those 3 really show the PQ, IMO.

Batman vs Superman has some amazing use of HDR. The final battle between Superman and Batman, and then the Doomsday scenes, are perfect showcases for the format.

I'd add these to my must-owns:

- Alien: Covenant
- Blade Runner
- Pacific Rim
- The Shallows
- Sicario

It's more than 3 but I couldn't decide.

Everyone raves about the original Blade Runner in 4k. It's on sale at BB on Black Friday too.

The TV is the Sony 55 inch model 9400E and the 4K player I haven't decided yet.

Personally I'd recommend the John Wick movies, they both look great in 4K and they're quite cheap for 4K

I have their 3D counterparts (which I'll sell), but I'm going to pick up Wonder Woman and pair it with Batman vs Superman. I have promised myself not to re-buy movies I already own on BD with a few exceptions. Since I don't own either John Wick, I'll add them to my list.

Planet Earth II

The Fifth Element

There are a lot of really good quality UHD's that you'd enjoy immensely. The vast majority of the ones many of us have would make a more than adequate beginning for your collection.

Planet Earth 2, despite a few soft sequences, is demo material. 4K really shines in nature documentaries.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 may not be the absolute sharpest disc, but it's full of eye candy.

Hard to limit to just 3:

John Wick 1/2
Deadpool
Revenant
Planet Earth 2

Probably many others but those come to mind as good content with great PQ

Fantastic Beasts
The Martian
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2

I would also recommend Warcraft, Logan, Spiderman Homecoming, Secret Lives of Pets, and the Harry Potter series.
