Default REGION for Blu-ray

Can we post here the ALL REGION or ABC blu-ray movies , or it will be good if in the main site they have also this info.

Amazon does not have a search criteria for region and in most cases the region in the movies is unknown.

For now I know that All Warner & Paramount Blu-ray are region free. It will be very good for blu-ray if the rest follow..

Also it will be good to include nore languages for the subtitles.

Default Casino Royale

The weird thing I have found is that the region coding is not consistant.
For example I checked out Casino Royale in the UK & it showed A B & C on the box so I asked my sister to send it from Canada as a birthday present & when it came it was region A only so won't play.
So not only are the studios not consistant in their approach they are not even consistant with the same movie in different areas !!

Can anyone here confirm Cars from France will play on any player? Amazon lists it as Region B but someone here said it's region free.

Question transcending region

okay...this has been very informative. the regional release websites are epic. but i want to sidestep the abc's of region compatibility for a sec and get into regional format releases. what supposedly exclusive 'hd-dvd' releases (predominantly due to Universal's distribution rights) do you know of that have been released on blu-ray in different regions? i'm hoping that some universal movies that i dig (i.e. children of men) find their way to blu-ray in other regions where universal has no dominion.

No neutral studios use region coding for Blu-ray (or they are coded in Region A, B and C that in fact is region free)

Sony do not use region coding on their releases in Europe. Some of their first releases did but not anymore.

Sony and Disney do not use region coding on their catalogue releases (movies that are not still up on theaters somewhere) in USA. Some of their first releases did but not anymore.

Lionsgate have a mix of regioincoded movies. You will have to check http://bluray.lindsite.dk/ or http://www.Amazon.com (that generally are correct for regioncodes on Blu-ray) for the region code.

Fox have only released region coded movies in USA so far but have started to release region free movies in Europe.

Region C might never be used (India, China and Russia).

Warner are the ones really hot for region codes to be honest.

Lionsgate is random because most of their films are owned by other companies outside north america

Nor Warner neither Paramount (or any other neutral studio) have used region coding on any disc so far. They releases only region free discs.

This whole A´B´C region stuff is such a pain in the ass

they should just make one region, and everybody would be happy...

I completely agree. This is the one thing that I hate about Blu-Ray.

I also agree, even if I'm able to play both region codings (don't think Region C will ever be used) with my two players I try to not buy region coded discs until where are region free players that you can update the firmware on (the first Samsung with it's original firmware is region free).

Use this site to check coding.

Don't know how regularly they update.

Will we see a method in the near future, as was the region X on the PS2 for example, to play BR's across regions? I bet it's possible with the PS3 but i haven't heard anything. I falsly bought me some Brothers Grimm which doesn't work on Region A players.

honestly, anyone unsure about how useful and beautiful a PiP implementation could be just needs to find a way to check out the Freedom release on HD DVD. What's done there is simple but light years beyond anything DVD has done for it. It's a feature that if actually marketed right could move a boatload of players to the hardcore movie crowd that isn't technically oriented.

Paidgeek,

I have a question regarding the region coding of Sony Pictures earliest Blu-Ray releases. Catalogue titles like Black Hawk Down and Tears of the Sun which are clearly labeled Region A on the back cover played, to my surprise, very well in my Region B Playstation 3. Is this just plain luck (weak region coding?) or are they actually coded all region like more recent released catalogue titles just not stated as such on the cover?

Thank you.

Many Sony DVD titles were coded 1,2,3,4 (basically NTSC territories) so they could sell the same disc there, but the packaging only listed the local region

I expect it's the same

I see, thanks. I sure hope that is the case I'm considering buying some more early BD catalogue titles which are labeled region A...
