Humor and insight.

And all that online posting done after walking around for a couple days and dealing with about 100 cc. of blood in my knee joint due to a complete cruciate ligatment tear and a postero-lateral tibial plateau fracture to boot.

Just in time for my wife when she returns home to be greeted with tending to yet another knee casualty…. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...fe#post8690301

Never a dull moment in our household.

As my niece would say…“it’s an ow-ee”.
Caught up. I fast-forwarded last weekend’s Chelsea v. Man.U match after Chelsea scored 3.

Whaz up? How’s the transfer market look? Arsenal needs one more guy to put the ball in the net, me thinks. Question is, is there anyone available and/or worth buying?

Now's the time, if the Arsenal is truly serious at making a bid for the Prem crown. I also see you Sunderland guys are slowly scratching your way up and there may still be hope.

I was referring to the semi final of the league cup Penton Man. Man U versus Sunderland?

probably been discussed already in here but my gears have been ground can't stand places like BestBuy.ca that are advertising the 4k remastered films as 4K movie content for your 4k tv -_-
just got an ad from BB and they're doing just that on their website as well on the page for 4K tv's there's a link to 4K movies on it -_-

someone could probably start a misrepresentation case

No, I haven’t been following or recording any of that competition…it’s tough for me to find time to even watch the early Champions League matches. Did you guys beat Man U?

I can’t speak to that particular case, as I don’t know what they’re doing, but don’t be surprised if in the future there are also innovative marketing descriptions or claims of high dynamic range (HDR) and wide color range (WCG) by TV manufacturers, which are not very close to what original developers had in mind.

So, work and interest on the HDR front continues.

Listening to that segment from the DP roundtable at seeing something outside the DI suite and it not living up, it was a bit vague. I agree that in the circumstances they are talking about (they mention bulb age, projector variances, etc) there would be differences but that is the point of calibration. Granted, the DI is a completely different compression, color resolution and gamut than what you see on Blu-ray but I imagine you'd see more differences from the lack of consistent calibration of displays than anything. I think it is still one of the most overlooked things out there and very few people actually watch anything on a truly calibrated display.

Didn't one of the participants say that he'd only go back to one particular screening room every time? Seems a bit rich to nod along with the comments about Blu-ray 'not being the films they had shot' when they don't even trust the screens in the post facilities that they use.

I heard that, which is why I'm saying that it largely has more to do with calibration. Post houses should have every display within them calibrated, but some may have different types of displays in different rooms, which will also make things look different. If he is still grading I would want to be in the same room everytime as well, you don't want to change things based on the display technology.

I fear nobody notable coming in is not good for us because when I watch the Arsenal, their passing in an attempt to get a goal (which is the bottom line and what it’s all about) still feels too deliberate, labored and sometimes even sluggish compared to other teams like Chelsea, Man City and even Man U and Liverpool.

We’re lucky we got a good jump out of the gate so we can rest easy (I hope) for an assured spot in next year’s Champions League, but without an addition, the Prem crown seems like a pipe dream to me.

Optimal calibration is a valid consideration…not to mention the fact that ‘well-calibrated’ consumers in their homes remain to this day somewhat at a disadvantage because they really don’t know what exact gamma curve (2.2 – 2.4) was used by the respective independent post house or studio inhouse service (Sony Colorworks, Warner Bros. MPI) in the mastering of a specific Blu-ray movie; whereas, the D.P. sees it as it is created with no possible difference as to playback gamma.

Don't rule out a transfer deadline day swoop Penton, Tob. Arsenal may be keeping their cards close to their chest.

That is no trivial task (or at least it did not use to be, retired 2004). Getting two or more professional monitors of the same brand and model to look the same was a challenge and time consuming. The pain was made worse by having models from Conrac, Tektronix, Barco and Sony.

OT: I hope you guys get the Sony VPL-VW600ES in for testing and look forward to your (or one of your colleagues) report in S&V.
