Like you said, forget the third one ever happened. It would ROCK if they do it based on the RE4 game.

This sounds like absolute utter shit. Doesn't make sense to even use the name Resident Evil.

Well - Looks like Anderson wants to make number 4 as part one of a new trilogy. This time the trilogy will be in 3D using the cameras invented for the filming of Avatar. Get this:

Quote:
GET YOUR 3D glasses ready for the Avatar Effect.

James Cameron's $240million sci-fi epic, which has film fans under its spell at Comic-Con, will set the scene for what could be the next big trend in the industry: uber-realistic 3D.

And Paul W.S. Anderson wants to be at the front of the queue.

He says he wants to do another Resident Evil trilogy - and he'd like to make it in 3D, just like James Cameron's feverishly-anticipated Avatar.

Anderson wrote all the previous Resident Evil films, which are based on the hit video games known in Japan as Biohazard. He directed the first film and then stepped back to be a producer on the next two.

It was announced yesterday that he is returning to the director's chair for the fourth, Resident Evil: Afterlife, with filming set to start on September 28.

He told Shock Till You Drop that Afterlife would have the largest budget in the series so far.

"I always envisioned Resident Evil as a trilogy of films," he said. "And we've been very lucky where it's a trilogy where the audience has built and built.

"I wanted to kick off a brand new trilogy. I'm really excited we're doing it [in 3D] and we're using the same camera system [James] Cameron used for Avatar."

He added: "There are a lot of exciting things about this one. I don't regard it as Resident Evil 4, I regard it as a retooling and rebirth of the entire franchise."

Milla Jovovich will return as Alice in the film, which is set for release on September 17, 2010.

It's also said to include some returning characters from the previous films and new characters from the video games.

Jensen Ackles earlier denied that he had been approached to star in the fourth film as Leon S Kennedy, a floppy-haired, hunky police officer from video games 2 and 4 and the animated DVD movie Degeneration. The late Brad Renfro played the character in a promo advert in Japan.

But Ackles is still near the top of the fan wishlist for the part and if Supernatural ends after Season Five, he could well end up being invited to join the franchise.

Milla Jovovich Talks About Her STARRING Role in 'Resident Evil 4'

Quote:
Bloody-Disgusting spoke to action heroine Milla Jovovich this morning at the press day for A Perfect Getaway. With the recent announcement of a September 2010 release date for Resident Evil 4: Afterlife, we asked Jovovich what’s in store for Alice in the fourth movie and what the 3-D will mean for the franchise. Not only does she break the news on her starring role, but she had a lot more to tell us!

"Does everything on me have to come out on Bloody-Disgusting?" Jovovich jokes of her regular appearances on BD. "I’m the lead role [again]," says Jovovich. "There’s the clones and it’s going to be a lot of work. I’m gonna be working every day for the next four months on this and it’s gonna be bigger than ever. It’s super-exciting."

As usual, the specifics of the plot are under wraps for now, but Jovovich tiptoed around the details to tell us as much as she could. "I would feel a little bit weird giving you too much information about the character," she tells BD. "Let’s just say this. The clones are definitely in it. You’ve got multiple Alice’s kicking serious butt. And definitely the real Alice has some pretty major things happen to her that change the stakes a little bit. That’s probably all I can give you in a vague sort of way. It’s definitely going to be a different Alice than who we’re used to."

The same team that did the 3-D work on James Cameron’s AVATAR will be working on RESIDENT EVIL 4: AFTERLIFE. For now, Jovovich is leaving that intense prep work to her husband, Paul W.S. Anderson, who returns to direct part four. "I have no idea about the 3-D process," Jovovich says, laughing. "Paul just signed a deal with the people Cameron used on AVATAR because they impressed him the most. [Paul] has basically seen like every 3-D movie ever made in the last two months to prepare for it. We’re definitely using all the best equipment. All the storyboards are centered around how to make the 3-D the best it can be. We’re really trying to use that medium to its fullest."

In terms of whether this will be the final RESIDENT EVIL movie or if a part five will surface down the line, Jovovich says that’s up to the fans. "You know, it depends," she says. RESIDENT EVIL is one of those things that is very much based on how well the last movie did. The last movie did very well, so of course the company wants to make another one. These films are very organic in that sense. It’s not like a HARRY POTTER machine in the sense that it’s already this huge thing and they make three movies at the same time. For us, we make one movie, we give it an interesting ending and if the fans are like, ‘We want to see what happened. We want to see the next one’ and the studio gets enough mail and there’s web site interest then we’re like, ‘Yeah, let’s make another one.’"

As for returning to the role of Alice again and again, Jovovich says she if happy for the work and the chance to dip into the intense action scenes every few years. "You know what, every two years I get a steady job and as an actor [and] that’s a huge relief. Then I get to do all my little independent movies that no one sees. I get more versatile things for myself. And then, every couple years you get the RESIDENT EVIL to kick your butt and get you in shape and it’s fun and exciting."

On the contrary, I beg to differ. All the resident evil movies are awesome and the games were even better, but if I had to rate each one it would go re 1, re 3, then re2

The only live action RE movie I like the first one cause it does have the RE feel to it and the atmosphere. the only characters that are in the movie that are from the games is the lickers, zombie dogs and the zombies them selves. I know a lot of people hate the movies. I hate apocalypse and extinction. I'm excited for Afterlife cause of Chris redfield and Wesker. the actors that play them look just like them.

What they need to do is make more CGI RE movies like Degeneration. I heard a rumor that they were going to do another one with Rebbecca Chambers.

I just watched the trailer. I'll definitely go see this in theatres, it seems like it will be a cool 3D experience, especially since it was filmed in 3D like Avatar which had best 3D of any movie so far.

Awesome news! I'm so excited. The Resident Evil Trilogy is one of my top ten favorite Trilogy's. This will be the first 3D movie that I might actually look forward to.

Larter, Miller, and Kodjoe Ready for Resident Evil: Afterlife

Quote:
The Paul W.S. Anderson film you've all been waiting for, Resident Evil: Afterlife, the fourth film in the franchise based on the popular video game series, has nearly rounded out its cast already - and thanks to The Surrogates star Boris Kodjoe and BlackFilm.com, we've got the names and some plot tidbits for you. When sitting down with Black Film, Kodjoe revealed (read: spilled) that "Prison Break" star Wentworth Miller has joined the cast along with "Heroes" sexy vixen Ali Larter will be returning as Claire Redfield (from the third film). As for Kodjoe's character and the plot of RE: Afterlife, he went into a bit more detail.

Quote:
"I play the leader of the survivors in LA. Milla Jovovich's character, Alice, is roaming the world looking for survivors and she's wound up in L.A., which has been burning for three years. She comes across an L.A. jail surrounded be these half-dead, uhh… [Zombies. The word he's looking for is 'zombies.'] Yeah, they're those monsters, what are they called? Anyway, she comes across the jail and there's a couple of survivors and she lands on top of the roof and partners up with me to fight the guys that are coming after them. We're trying to get all of the survivors out of the jail to safety. We're starting next week, actually."
So, starting next week in Toronto, Resident Evil: Afterlife will begin filming - and it appears to be a tried and true zombie-survival film. But Paul W.S. Anderson is apparently using the the same cameras James Cameron used for Avatar - so, you know, there's that. He's also returning to both write and direct the film after taking a hiatus from both jobs since the original. For my money (and yes, I paid to see it) Resident Evil: Extinction was a real disappointment. But I'm always down for some more gluttonous zombie fare - especially when framed by a prison break scenario in a gritty post-apocalyptic setting.

Wentworth Miller as Chris Redfield has got to be one of the worst miscasts in history. He does not fit the bill physically in any shape or form. Not even the Chris from the first game. Just one more reason to really hate this movies to the point of not watching them. They take too many deviations from the source material, it's going to end up being crap. Just reboot, recast and start from scratch please.

Milla Jovovich Twittering While Killing Zombies In 3D!
Quote:

Jim here. Ryan Rotten of STYD happened to notice Milla Jovovich is twittering from the set of RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE, which of course is being shot in 3D.

"Wow, just finished a scene with Ali Larter and Wentworth Miller on a skiff approaching the huge ship. To say its cold is a joke. A bitter joke," she writes, followed with, "Of course, Ali and I aren't wearing much and to make matters worse Wenty is driving the boat himself and crashing it repeatedly! lol!"hing it repeatedly! lol!"

And I picked these tweets up today from Milla: "so, for anyone interested in the guns i use in this movie, here is the list: 2 smith&wesson 460 revolvers, 2 sawed off double barrel shotguns,1MPSK submachine gun,2MP9 submachine guns and 1 M4 assault rifle. phew!"

"when Ali and i were doing the fight in the shower block, i had to point my shotgun into camera and shoot. but when i did, the glass protecting the camera completely shattered! that is definitely going on the gag reel for the dvd! lol"

Paul W. S. Anderson wrote and is directing this horror franchise's next installment. Here is the storyline: In a world ravaged by a virus infection, turning its victims into the Undead, Alice continues on her journey to find survivors and lead them to safety. Her deadly battle with the Umbrella Corporation reaches new heights, but Alice gets some unexpected help from an old friend. A new lead that promises a safe haven from the Undead leads them to Los Angeles, but when they arrive the city is overrun by thousands of Undead and Alice and her comrades are about to step into a deadly trap.

I am really looking forward to this iteration of the franchise - yeah, it's 3D - but it is more than that. Sure zombies get under my skin and I am still getting my butt handed to me by the S3D game RESIDENT EVIL 5 - something about the story resonates with me. Maybe it is all the attention being given to H1N1. Either way, we'll get to see which guy can land "Zombie Kill Of The Year" - Woody Harrelson or Wentworth Miller. Oops. REA doesn't come out until August 27, 2010... Ok, so it's not a CALENDAR year.

I'm a huge fan of the games but the only Movie I liked in the series was the first live action RE movie and Degeneration. I thought Apocalypse and extinction are shitty as hell. but i hope this one is like the first one since Paul Anderson directed the first one and he also directed Event Horizon which is one of my favorite Sci-Fi and Horror movies ever made.
