Default Pirates: At World's End resume issues

Man I just rented this movie on blu-ray and it looks great and sounds fantastic. But it seems the "resume" function did not work properly on this disc. I'd press stop once and when I hit play, the player normally picks up where I left off. Well not with this disc, it kept going back to the beginning. It's the first disc I played on my new Sony player. Maybe it was just a screwed up rental disc? I was impressed with the picture and sound.

This disc is Authored in Java, there's no Java disc that resume right now. The Java App have to be reloaded into memory and that is causing the movie to restart...

There are no players, BD or HD DVD, which will resume after stop for discs authored with advance content, like POTC.

I want VERY movie to resume. I use a Sony BDP-S300. Some times movies resume, sometimes they don't.

I thought it was up to how the disc was mastered, but apparently not.

My 40GB doesn't resume.
Or I haven't found the title that allows it.

To clarify things:

I believe all BD players will resume after pause for all titles.

No BD player (or HD DVD player) will resume after stop for titles authored with advance content (think zippy BD-J functionality or HDi). Nearly all will resume after stop for titles not authored with advance content.

At Worlds End on the PS3? Are you sure? For me, stop takes me to the desktop and, when I hit play, the whole thing starts from the beginning i.e. previews, etc etc. This should be the case for everyone.

some of you need to stop posting everything on the defensive!!! The PS3 does NOT resume play on JAVA authored discs.

The OP is right...if you stop a Blu-ray that is authored with BD-J, then you will have to re-find your last spot.

I want every single one of you who jumped to the offensive about this to go put a movie in that has BD-J and try to stop a movie and replay it....it won't.

Right. To get around the issue, I wonder if they could implement something like the Season Play feature on Lost on discs that are using BD-J.

Bookmarking, where possible, seems to be the solution most folks are gravitating to.

Here's the relevant post by amillians concerning the Resume feature on advanced authored discs.
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...71&postcount=8

I would hope, if this is indeed a hardware issue, that the PS3 would be updated to support this. It's a very convenient, common-sense feature.

I also have to wonder, if the CEM's don't do anything, what the masses will say about this when they begin to buy into Blu-ray. They're probably expecting all the convenience features of DVD to be included in with Blu-ray as well.

Hey, it's not an inconvenience and we're all here to chat about this stuff and learn as we go!

I absolutely agree, however.... There are a couple of excellent threads on this topic @ AVS wherein Alex (amillians) and others go into great detail on the technical difficulties associated with implementing this. After reading them, my inexpert conclusion was that it may be a while before this is "fixed", if ever. In essence, we may be trading this feature for other features associated with advanced content.
