I've only seen the former once, but I recall the jazz dancing in SM3 being presented pretty straight, while Starlord dancing to distract Ronan was clearly a gag.

Heaven forbid we want a fun comic book movie and not something overly serious and mopey. I don't get who non-comics readers are to judge what makes a good comic book movie.

Pardon my French but so the f**k what? Tons of movies are based on novels you never read or video games I never played as well, but in the end what matters is that they are GOOD MOVIES. Why this is something comic book fans especially cannot swallow will never make sense to me, but I would guess it's related to childhood impressions.
You can say Raimi's Spider-Man movies are poor adaptations if you really want to, but to say they're poor films is pretty silly. Especially if your main argument is that Toby Maguire displays emotion and the script has real drama in it. |

Except that "real emotion" is horribly acted and looks like a joke. I also wouldn't call it "real drama." It felt rather forced for the sake of drama. Stop brushing off people's legitimate complaints as them simply wanting one-liners and dumb cgi action. We have no problem with drama when it is done right.

Any fan of any source material wants it to be good and close to the source material. It isn't just comic fans that want that, and I think that's a pretty ridiculous thing to say. Should I point to the Jack Reacher threads where people are still upset about Cruise's casting since he doesn't resemble the character in the book? Or the numerous sites online that focus on the issues that the Harry Potter films compared to the books?
Being the best adaptation you can be isn't the only thing is important, sure. But it's still something that is important. When adaptations start going too far off course from what they're based on, you usually end up with inferior product. I think the only exception to that is many of the Bond films, but even then, there's a case to be made that many of them aren't as good as their book counterparts and could have been better had they stuck to the stories in the book. I want good movies, as do most fans, both of the source material as well as the casual cinema goer. But I also want the movies to reflect their source, and it's silly to pretend they shouldn't. As for Raimi's Spider-Man films, they were fairly accurate love letters to the earliest years of the comics. The emo Peter stuff gets too much focus on the things that first series does wrong. I'd say that a big reason those films do work is because of how honest they are about their love for the source material, but also doing their own thing when needed. They didn't change it so it's unrecognizable. But it's still clearly the Spider-Man story. Adhering to the source is key to making any adaptation work.
