Doesn't hurt that the director was a cinematographer with 30+ years experience trying his hand at directing for the first time. It's easily the best-looking of all the Rambo films.

In another instance of me having horrible taste in movies, Rambo III is my favorite.

Just an action filled fun movie.

Which reminds me... When are we getting Hot Shots Part Deux on 4K?

Most of us would settle for a domestic (USA) blu-ray.

I just realized Rambo II is going to be the first Jack Cardiff-lensed movie on the format. That is very exciting. Greatest cinematographer of all time, IMO.

I wonder why they felt the need to paste his Rambo III head on to his First Blood body? Very strange.

Maybe the reason Lionsgate is only releasing these is because Studio Canal is releasing them in the UK and they don't want people importing and losing sales for their own releases at a later date.

Or maybe any Rambo 4 home-video release must be Stallone-approved and he's busy or something. It's likely nobody made such provisions in the 80s so they can release those whenever, and any way they want.

I still have trouble reconciling the words Jack Cardiff and Rambo in the same sentence.

They remind me of the straight to video knock offs that the Rambo films inspired. Maybe that's the point... Too bad they aren't going the Arrow reverse sleeve route.

Strictly picture quality, should one get the Lionsgate or Studio Canal?

My LD copy has the gorgeous original art on a 12" jacket: https://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/23783...WS/First-Blood

Please tell me this will have the original mix. I'm glad these are finally getting re-dos but to do 4K restorations and not include original audio is beyond stupid.

I would expect these to be very similar releases. Most likely the Studio Canal ones might be slightly better but no one would be able to say for certain without directly comparing the discs when released.

I myself am leaning towards the studio canal 4K steelbook trilogy release.

As would I to be honest. That's why I have yet to import it. Though at this stage in the game, I seriously doubt a domestic release is forthcoming.

It's possible they may be identical discs just like Terminator 2 was worldwide - the Terminator 2 disc has an option to select which country you were viewing it in then it took you to that countries applicable copyright warning and distributor logos before loading the exact same main menu. Being another example of a StudioCanal title released by Lionsgate in U.S it may be a StudioCanal mastered disc simply distributed by Lionsgate in the US. Also explains why no 4th film - StudioCanal doesn't have the rights to this - thus why they only remastered the first three.
