Just ordered First Blood. So I guess Studio Canal did a pretty solid job on these?

First Blood looks good, although it doesn't stand out as much as II & III. I have always found First Blood to look pretty good on Blu-ray, II & III never looked good! So these UHD releases are a real upgrade!

Just looking at the caps, they've definitely been tealed. And way too much blue in the blacks, which is not natural to the original photography. Although I have seen instances of HDR to SDR making caps look more blue/teal than they look on-screen, so I guess we'll see.

The elevated blacks looks pretty bad, too, but again, could be from the conversion, but at least in caps the blacks are way too washed out. Looks like very modern digital grades and not like 1980s films in the slightest.

But again, I don't trust caps to be 100% representative in UHD cases.

Teal is very prominent in original prints of 2001, Aliens, Blade Runner, The Terminator, etc. I go out of my way to watch as many as I can every year. And have a very good idea when it comes time to judge Blu/UHD color grading. If you’re implying that these movies did not have teal originally, then I know with certainty you haven’t seen any original prints and are just shaking the air needlessly.

I've projected prints of Blade Runner, Terminator, and Aliens, Rambo II and First Blood, so I know the teal in the blu-rays is definitely NOT hot original prints looked. There is some "teal" in certain shots, but none of those films had blu-ish blacks like the blu-rays have. That's 100% a modern DI color grading technique that unfortunately affects some of the remasters these days. Not sure why you mentioned Terminator, Blade Runner, etc, but none of those discs look like the original theatrical prints either, not that it's part of this discussion.

I have also color graded 3 films as of now and am familiar with how that works, and what digital grading can do as opposed to photochemical film grading.

So yeah, I know that the original prints looked like, and none of them were as "blue" as these caps, at least, present. And since I also said (which you ignored) that UHD caps aren't always representative of how they actually look on a TV, then I stand 100% by exactly everything I said. Everything looks pretty good on these, except the revisionist bluish blacks (in the caps, anyway).

Studiocanal impressed me with their 4K release of They Live. Looks like a brand spankin new 35mm print of it to me with better color because of the WCG this standard brings. Studiocanal is on the right track it seems from others response here. I'll get around to at least watching First Blood soon. I used to watch it on my S-VHS and Sony Trinitron and Stereo speakers back in the 90's so it's been awhile LOL!

When did you view the prints?

Sometime in the 2000s for Rambo movies. Saw Aliens 70mm and 2001 70mm both original prints within the past two years. I see about 15-20 original prints a year, for example, I’ve just seen Akira and Beetlejuice. I could make a list of everything, but it would be pointless.

Geez...I can't quite buy First Blood having color like that. Particularly on an original release print.

Noremac are you sure you saw a vintage print? It's very common for theaters today to get nothing but later studio reissue and vaulted prints made off of later digital iterations that aren't themselves correct. Unless you can get an inside source to tell you what the studio or distributor sent over you have to try and guess by dating the wear and tear or studio logos.

This looks like a huge upgrade in pretty much every way, but BOY do I hate the color change here: https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?go=1&...125004&i=1&l=0

I’ve always loved the cinematography in this movie; the gray skies and cold mountain atmosphere are beautiful. But the teal push destroys that in this cap. Hmm.

I'm not typically like this, but I gotta say it rubs me the wrong way as well.

Looks absolutely amazing and spot on to “original photography” as a term some like to use these days.

Vintage original print and more than once. Obviously nothing is ever going to be absolutely 100% identical, but it’s so close as to be spot on. This is a tremendous release. All three movies.

Ohers trailers also have some white spatter.
To answer my findings. The spots are also on the 4K Blu-ray.
