Il presume there must be some other reason you've had several players, because else they must be pretty poorly made or bad luck if the reason is because they all ended up dying.
Basically I kept upgrading for one reason or another, bear in mind I've been chasing after the best in home video for the last 25 years or so, i.e. early-generation hardware is never great and that alone meant a few upgrades along the way with Blu-ray which didn't reach the full 2.0 profile until a good couple of years in. People often react with incredulity but hey, this is me: single guy (no great surprise there, eh? ) with disposable income so if I can extract another fraction of performance out of a piece of kit then I'm going to go for it. Players ended up getting a lot smaller and slimmer as well which meant more rack space, one of the best damn players I've ever had was the Panasonic BB-T01, tiny little thing and I wish I'd never sold it.
Working in an electrical retail store back in the day meant I got discounts so whenever a new player popped up with features that I felt would be of benefit I sold the existing player and bought the new one. I've had a couple of players fail for sure, like the multi-region modded S470 that was just too quirky in operation (and got BLOODY hot as well) though I still managed to sell that one for a few bob, and the S790 which was a fine player but one day decided to stop playing DVDs, so back it went.
Basically I kept upgrading for one reason or another.
Ahh ok fair enough, with all respects and not a knock on you but you do convey the impression that you are someone who loves upgrading or buying everything or certainly Blu-Ray discs at least. How many versions of Superman you got now? Haha. I can understand it from the point of view of older players being slower and not as feature full as they are now, so yeah i get it from that standpoint. I only got my first player a little over 2 years ago, so i guess at least that means i managed to avoid owning any of the slower players that first came to market. And it's got apps and Internet access etc, features that i havnt hardly found my self using much actually. But handy i suppose for if whenever i do need them tho.
Most middle of the road players now probably all produce a pretty much same picture quality and fire up speedily, so i dont need to upgrade in that respect. But yeah no problem with people that love constantly wanting to get their hands on new bit of kit. Ok cool.
There we are then mate, I've been at this for over ten times longer than you have!!
I'm a serial upgrader for sure though, starting with the formats themselves (VHS, Laserdisc, DVD, 1080i DVHS, HD DVD, Blu-ray, 3D Blu-ray, 4K Blu-ray) and the hardware and software therein, no knock taken. But I sell in order to buy, I don't hoard something if it's no longer got any value to me e.g. my entire Laserdisc collection went a few years back, got over a grand for everything which helped to kickstart my 4K adventure.

Yeah but i was talking about choice, not time! Im not young ya know, i was alive during all the other lesser formats. It's just a case of i chose not to constantly upgrade in the past and nothing to do with because i havnt been on the planet long enough to not of done so. But i know what you mean anyway!
Edit: sorry my comment makes it sound like im being sh*tty, i dont mean it to sound like that. Im a stubbornly over logical buggar.

Lol. I've had a couple of Sony players in the past that sounded like helicopters taking off. I used to stack four or five heavy cookery books on top to tame the vibrations
One of my players is like that. Luckily I figured out that standing it on its side and putting a jar of change next to it (just so it doesn’t fall) keeps it quiet. 😁
Is the new UHD and BD the first time the uncut version has had the correct subtitles (post-DVD, at least)?
Correct in that the Russian isn’t translated, yes. But so cliff-notes and wrong that very few of the subs are translations of the actual dialogue. They are horrible re-writes.
I received my copies today, and while I can't watch UHD BDs yet, I have scanned the included 1080p Blu-rays. As you'll see, the encodes are identical to the new StudioCanal UK (less Rambo III)/DE/FR discs, with the French and German audio and subtitles replaced by Spanish audio and subtitles that are only accessible from a Latin American Spanish menu.
The fact that the encodes are the same leads me to believe that StudioCanal authored all the Blu-rays, and surely this means they also encoded all of the UHD Blu-rays, too.
BDInfo scan (included 1080p Blu-ray only) (StudioCanal version is here):

Only three or four lines of Russian dialogue should be translated to English on the print. The DVDs got this woefully wrong and translated everything. The BDs were correct. Are these UHDs correct too?
My favourite thing about the X800 is how damn quiet it is. I'm sensitive to player noise so having a unit which is so quiet it can quite literally be drowned out by the sound of a mouse farting, has been a joy.
I've had many players over the years, including some from Sony -- as well as Samsung and LG, and I can say that the X800 is the quietest player I've ever owned. Where I live, I had the opportunity to go with either the X700 or X800 for the same price. I've only had the X800 for two weeks now but I've been quite happy so far.
Anyway, back on topic -- is it odd that there is no Canadian release? Most other UHD titles I've seen have had one.

I have both the OPPO and the X800 and I they're both great players.
Yeah, no Canadian release yet, so I ordered from WOWHD.ca

The original Artisan DVD was correct. The UHD is also correct.

I'm actually still trying to decide if I want the UHDs.
I have the Canadian Mongrel edition of First Blood, but I've read that their Rambo III is missing those subtitles.
Do either of you know if there any releases of the 2011 Studio Canal remaster of Rambo III that are both uncut and have the subtitles for those two scenes?
There’s no such thing as direct mode and players don’t just pass the info from the disc directly to the TV. This is not how it all works. There’s an enormous amount of processing happening no matter what settings you use. This is a fundamental lack of knowledge on how these things operate.
Yes there is! I have that on my pioneer Blu Ray player.
There are definitely visual differences between all UHD players. But the X800 is a poor player, although I’m not surprised it still looked better than the LG. I know I can’t convince you to try the Xbox One X, but you should then try the Panny 820. Either will be an eye opening experience.
Xbox One x do me a favour. I had one for UHD playback and it was rubbish. I sold it and bought the Oppo. Far superior.
