Hopefully by the second half of this year we'll see DV discs as standard on most major new releases. I'm not going to double dip if an HDR10 movie comes out later on DV, except perhaps out of curiosity. Most of the benefit is already there with HDR10 and the WCG and perhaps the incremental upgrade to 12 bits may not be that big a deal. But yeah it's better to have a DV disc than just HDR10, but it's not going to affect my purchasing one way or the other.

Samsung is striving to have a commercial installation of this display in place within the next 12 months, give or take (+ or -) a few months.
Is this another reason that Samsung is pursuing HDR10+. To sell these they have to compete with the hottest thing in theaters today, Dolby Cinema and HDR. This is a LED so let’s use Dolby Vision. Whoa, can’t do that. Let’s develop our own dynamic metadata HDR. We will call it HDR10+.

5/21. Well I discovered I'm not as clever as I thought. This was brought up earlier as per the quote below:

I’m sure we will know more after Samsung’s presentation in Hollywood in the coming weeks.
I never said it wasn't a big deal. It will likely be a huge deal if the plan is to put HDR on every tablet, phone and Walmart TV over the next decade or whatever. What I'm saying is I'm not sold on it being a big deal for HDR Premium spec televisions.

Am I totally grasping at straws?
And let's also bear in mind that Samsung have their LED cinema screens to shill as well, so what better partner for that than their own variant of dynamic HDR? Not that HDR10+ is a theatrical standard or anything, but still.

It would be interesting to know on which models Samsung presented HDR10+ during NAB 2016 last year. Based on reports, it offered a pretty big upgrade in certain scenes (mostly in the darker scenes.)

Maybe someone here knows.

Default flatpanelsHD article: Samsung introduces open HDR10+ format with dynamic metadata

For example, when a movie’s overall color scheme is very bright but has a few scenes filmed in relatively dim lighting, those scenes will appear significantly darker than what was originally envisioned by the director,” the company said. “HDR10+ incorporates dynamic metadata that allows a high dynamic range (HDR) TV to adjust brightness levels on a scene-by-scene or even frame-by-frame basis.

This implies it affects all TVs.

PQ10 = HDR10 without HDR10 static metadata

Edit: It should be stressed that this overview represents the current line of thinking for the future Phase B work. Nothing here is definitive yet.

Default Rohde & Schwarz to Showcase Clipster Mastering Workstation in Support of Dolby Vision

This is interesting but “over my head” as to how innovative it is. I leave it too you more knowledgeable guys to say if this is real progress. Here is the link: http://www.digitalfacility.com/artic...jsp?id=4971261

Another welcomed tool in the post production arsenal, but a ground breaking milestone and what post facilities would really embrace with enthusiasm is that instead of the colorist having to regrade a whole show or movie in another dynamic metatdata application (other than thee original)….for example, original grade is Dolby Vision but the client sells the show to a vendor who uses the Samsung approach would be for someone to design an automatic converter characterized by excellent precision as to picture quality, to unify the different approaches.

Given the high degree of complexity, that is a truly difficult challenge and I’m not sure solvable; however, algorithms are the way……

I wouldn’t consider it to have the dynamic range of high end digital cinematography or studio cameras. Keep in mind the images weren’t intended to be delivered to audiences in HDR in the first place. The cameras capturing the racers were custom built rigs (based on the XDCam block) which don’t have recordable media function, just straight thru live as that allows the camera to be shorter and thusly more adaptable to the shooter sitting on the back of the motorcycle(s) and turning this way or that. The camera rigs also consist of custom built shrouding, expensive stabilized lenses and imho, flawless proprietary RF stuff that I can’t talk about.

Addendum: I highly doubt that one can find the specific information as to the camera rigs which I revealed in the above paragraph by internet googling and such….. so consider this post to be yet another Blu-ray.com forum exclusive.

Hi Dan, I use the same three browsers with the same latest three versions...no cigar. I just don't know why.
I have a feeling that it's something very simple, a setting perhaps on my end. I'll try few things and if I can get them to show I'll let you know.

Meanwhile I like to know if others can access/see them.

I tried with the three browsers, same results. It is very unusual because those four images are the only ones that I can't see...from a multitude of sites I frequent almost every day.

can't wait for all tvs to have no color gradient problems so the tvs have no color banding issues the only ones that don't have these problems is sony,lg and i think vizio.
