BTW, great news on Scott, if this film will ever be a success, he's the guy that can pull it off.

The distress signal is genuine and was sent from an alien ship that has crash landed on LV-426 .This signal turns out to actually be a warning from the ships (deceased) alien crew (these are different aliens to the face hugers). The alien crew who have themselves succumbed to the "face huggers" crash landed on LV-426 and the face huggers onboard their ship escaped and formed a colony of their own, it's this colony that Kane, Dallas and Lambert discover below the crashed spaceship.

First of all, neither of those are Fox, and secondly, the original cuts of those ARE the final cuts. Extended Edition doesn't always mean Director's Cut.

believe me there is no one I want to see direct this film but Ridley. I have to say this though. To me it does not sound that Scott really wants to do this picture. I feel that this is more the studios doing in order to resurrect a franchise that they killed in AVP. I mean I don't think Ridley himself is too enthused about the project and that leaves me thinking do I really want to see this film if Ridley is not committed to do it. I mean he wanted his son in law to direct originally. 20th Century Fox must have gave Scott a boat load of money to direct this film.

I'd rather see Cameron direct a prequel.

Yeah, I said it.

+1

But Ridley Scott has to make a better movie, than either of the AVP pieces of crap that have hit the screen.

I said it in another thread and I'll say it here:

"Alien does NOT need a prequel!"

Aliens did a wonderful job answering many of the questions left from the 1st movie (Alien) and whatever mysteries remain do not need to be answered because that is part of what is so good about Alien.

I don't care who directs it or how talented the director is. A prequel will ruin whatever is left to be endeared by Alien (and Aliens). I guess Fox figures they haven't done enough damage to their franchise and want to put the final nail in the coffin. Ugh.

LOL I could see him as the brave leader of the colonists. Yes, I'm aware the colony thing is in #2 but what would they show from before 1? The aliens' homeworld? I think going in through the angle of how that brave colony survived the terror of the aliens for so long would make a much better movie.

Alien 3 on up is what killed the franchise, long before the avp garbage. I do like the second avp better than the first

sorry to put it to you but AVP already ruined whatever was left of the Alien franchise. Fox is now trying to compensate by getting Ridley involved to make a prequel and try to make the historic franchise respectable again. So it can be a box office cash cow. I don't think Ridley cares to do another Alien picture. He has always said "if they wanted me to do another... they should have offered me the sequel." I know he was angry that Fox gave it to Cameron without giving him a call. Ridley is being bribed into doing this picture.

Not sure how you can make a prequel when humans are not supposed to be involved previously to the original Alien (I do not consider the AvP comics, movies or novels to be canon in the Alien universe, just a Dark Horse/ Fox cash cow).

Could it be the tale of what happened to the crew of that mysterious Alien spaceship found by Kane and the others?

An all Alien (the giant race, and the ones we know as "aliens") film, no understandable speech, told by Scott, could be something to behold

I wasn't sure what to make of this news when I first read about it in May. If any other director had been attached (with, perhaps, the exception of James Cameron) I would have dsimissed it out of hand.

Yep its not prequel to alienS. (thank god, I want to see killing, not families making makeshift weapons and hiding)

That we know of. They could very easily say top secret mission blah blah blah go look for life out there oops you found the wrong life

Ouch! An opinion, but flawed

Black Rain - 1989
Thelma & Louise - 1991
Gladiator - 2000
Black Hawk Down - 2001
Kingdom of Heaven (the director's cut) - 2005

Of course, the above is just an opinion too!

I agree with you that AVP caused some irreversable damage to the Alien franchise but obviously it didn't "kill" it. News of this new prequel is evidence of that. Hell, technically AVP was already the "prequel" to Alien anyway. I just can't envision a direction this new "prequel" could take that would benefit the movies that were and still are great today. This new project can only cause more damage in my opinion. If so, that leaves no other direction for the franchise to go but to the grave (unless Fox starts talking remakes).

Edit: actually I take that back. If there was an Alien 5 where The Company were able to get Xenomorphs down to earth to be used as weapons, I'd love to see an epic battle of us vs them on a futuristic earth. If the right talent was attached to that movie, I'd be there. So yeah, maybe the prequel wouldn't "kill" the franchise but depending on what is done, it can severely damage the classics that are "Alien" and "Aliens". That would be the real tragedy here.
