Im trying so hard not to buy this. But I dont know how long I can hold off. I cant carry this ring around anymore!!!!

reactions to the last days worth of posts--

aside from that, I'm not a RINGS superfan (I like the movies, I don't think
they're the bonafide classics that most do) so I think the theatrical cuts
will do me just fine-- gonna pick up the set from Target with a 10% team
member discount....

Q: What's the definitive version of these films?

PETER JACKSON: The theatrical versions are the definitive versions. I regard the extended cuts as being a novelty for the fans that really want to see the extra material.

Actually, the majority of people here who have seen it seem to be pretty pleased.

we did this before with startrek[first 6 movies].and other big titles.some will be pleased,some will hate it. a lot of people will buy it. i haven't seen it but what i saw and reviews that people have seen it,i'll be in the hate it group. i will it hate it not just because of the dnr but the fact of the lack of effort put in to such a big and important title.

i remember seeing the peter jackson interview.at the time he said the movies will look great on blu-ray.according to one person jackson has as much to do with the dnr as warners is. if this true,''peter,wtf were thinking''.

I'm afraid you're misunderstanding what my question really was, we were discussing the PQ and not which "cut" would be the definitive release.

I really don't understand the bashing on the PQ. Some people even claim ''it's no better than the DVD''. I mean come on, might not be the best BD out there, but you can easily notice more details than on the DVD, and the colors are vibrants. Watched it on a Panny V10 54'' btw, custom setting, color temp warm 1.

Sometimes it's true a DVD to BD upgrade doesnt really look all that much better. Let's say terminator 2 for exemple. I could barely notice a difference. But that's not the case for LOTR, in my opinion.
