Ive seen video samples of the blu-ray , and be prepared for a horrible transfer, id rate it a 3.5/5 for video quality..biggest disappointment for the most anticipated blu-ray release....

When it's 3 of the most desired movies ever on Blu-ray. Anything less than almost perfect is a complete disappointment.

Regardless of how anticipated a movie is, that should not affect the score the transfer is given.

I've seen every screenshot posted, and the transfer on FotR is definitely not HORRIBLE from the look of those shots. Underwhelming? Yes.
The Two Towers and Return of the King look like they will be fantastic.

Ive seriously seen really s**t movies like "knowing" that look heaps better, clarity is also missing, but as someone said before maybe heaps of DNR. Its missing its "WOW" effect. Its not the age of the movie either, we've seen plenty of older films around the same year with top transfers.

edit: the samples that im talking about are from TTT.

Make sure to look through the screencaps we've been looking through here. The ones from ROTK in particular look great.

One of my concerns is that

I think DUFFY from AVS says the disc is only like 35Gigs... thats like a whole 15gigs that went to waste :/

I know video bitrate isn't everything but it should certainly help

Well personally I haven't seen the LOTR films since 2005 or 2006 (extended) so I'm looking forward to these bigtime. It's Lord of the Freaking Rings guys Theatrical, Extended, whatever, just gimme

Just to see these babies in 1080p in motion will be a treat in itself, even if the PQ isn't 5/5. The DTS MA... MUST kick ass..... surely! Even though it's only really 5.1 not 6.1/7.1.

There are just so many scenes in these films that kick ass... the Mines of Moria section in FOTR having some of the most scary suspense ever .... even more than a Tarantino film

If you've seen the Extended DVDs just recently though I can understand why this TE release may not be so appealing.

Actually the Audio is in fact 6.1, they changed it recently when the 5.1 announcement was met with bad response.

Its not 6.1 discrete.

It's like 5.6 channel

I think it should. The popularity and visual parameters of the film indicate the amount of care that's financially feasible to give to it. A decent transfer is good enough for Clerks, it's NOT good enough for visually driven movies that cost 9 figures and made billions.

Grain aside that shot looks better than any LOTR screen grab I've seen so far.

It's 5.1 ES which is NOT 6.1. Unless you have a PS3 the 5.1 ES is useless.
