FoTR was shot on super35 and always looked soft. The other 2 always looked a bit better, that all 3 of them received a big jump in PQ from the blu-ray transfers means WB did a good job. Could they have done a better job? Sure and I hope they do it soon bu I'm happy with what we have for now.

I was referring mostly to the many issues that Ken pointed out. Those things seem inherent to the transfer process. Soft is fine by me, because thats how it looked in theaters, but the other problems sound scary bad.

If you read the rest of what Vincent wrote, he describes in detail what could be done to make it great. A lot of $ required, yes, but it can be done.

All possible excuses in my heart I truly believe these complaints stem from another WB crap job and nothing more. I really think Fox, Paramount, these other guys would have done it right.

Not sarcasm. I honestly think these movies are being judged on a harsher scale than they should be simply because of what they are. I get that, I really do, I'm a huge LoTR fan myself. I think WB realizes that they could've done better or they wouldn't be telling reviewers not to post screen grabs of the blu-rays. I will get this set and hold out hope for an improved one down the line.

Yeah, but supporting such craptastic releases doesn't do any good in regards to helping put a stop to these butcher jobs.

Neither does nonstop bashing of the transfers or the studio that made them on a private forum. The correct course of action, as posted by insider Jeff Kleist and reviewer Kenneth Brown, is to politely and calmly contact WB and tell them how you feel and what they could've done better.

According to IMDb the source formate for all the movies are Super 35, I don't know what that means, but looks like they all could look have the same quality.

Don't worry they will remaster the movies for the eventual EE Blu-ray set.

This is a part of the film. I myself, who saw the film upwards of 10 times in theaters, can attest to the fact that the film always looked soft and somewhat artificial in theaters. It was not shot or processed to look ultra sharp and grainy like something that Michael Bay or Tony Scott would make. The Blu-Ray, from everything I've seen and heard seems to replicate the original look of the theatrical experience and in many ways, outdoes the theatrical prints. And let's not forget that Jackson approved these transfers as well. Ultimately, I think people have just gotten their hopes up wanting this release to be something that it can't be and I think those of us who understand the history of the film and the way it was shot and processed, will love seeing these films in the best presentations yet made available to the public.

Thank you, that is all.

It seem like some will never be satisfied. Yes FOTR has always been soft. And if it has always been soft, of course it will look like that on blu ray as well. But in the best presentation it can

Good job and could've done better are not the same thing. I think, considering the source(especially for FoTR) that WB did a good job, however considering the popularity and impact of these films they certainly could've done better.

What I mean is that these are titles that are eagerly awaited. Like Jurassic Park or Back To The Future. They have a mystic and importance to fans because of what they mean and the way we feel about them. They could be 150% perfect and most likely there would still be critics and bashing on them because of expectations that are set at level in fans mind that are just impossible.

Well if they are loaded with a healthy dose of DNR then I see nothing wrong with complaing.

Yeah, but why add DNR to an already soft source? They added more DNR for the Blu-ray release.

I have to disagree. A lot of BIG NAME, highly anticipated films have arrived and received praise because the disc was great. Wizard of Oz, Gone with the Wind, Godfathers etc. People would have freaked ot if those had poor PQ. My 2 cents.

I did not mean the quality, I mean the expectation. As good as GWTW or Casablanca are as movies they do not have the cult following of every nerds in the universe who are setting their expectation so high in their minds that no matter what is done, there is no way to make them happy.
