But in this case I WILL wait. Maybe, JUST maybe New Line will surrprise us and also include the extended editions as well. I dont need all the previous extras, just the films. They speak for themselves. |

Just put in my pre order!
I can't believe all of these people are whining about extended editions, I mean come the hell on. Did you not go see the movie in the theater because you knew someday an extended edition would come out? HELL NO, so stop whining and support blu ray. How this trilogy does will reflect directly upon when we get star wars. You KNOW George Lucas will be watching how LOTR does very carefully. |

People went to see them at the theater to know if it would be worth it to see the extended editions. |

I can rent them for next to nothing via Netflix which will save me ~$70......Renting is a no brainer for this watered down version (compared to the real EEs). ![]() |

HOWEVER, they should both exist ON A SINGLE DISC via seamless branching. People who want to see the full movie as intended by the director shouldn't need to wait YEARS to enjoy it. Yes, people who want to see the theatrical cut alone should be able to, but those who want the full experience shouldn't be punished for being bigger fans. Quote:

If they said that there would be no releases for two years because Jackson needs to work on the extended sequences, fans would be saying that the least they could do would be to put out the theatrical versions in the meantime.
Warner can't win here. At least we know that a blu-ray release is inevitable. That can't be said of all of the films that I want on blu-ray. As a gesture, Warner could offer a $10 or $20 credit if you send in a proof of purchase from the TE's, but I don't see what else they can do if the EE's truly aren't ready. |

For me it's pretty simple: no extended version means no sale.
The extended versions have already been released on DVD way back so there's no reason for them to go back to the theatrical cut now. For me, that's just inexcusable and a deal-breaker. As much as I loved the LotR movies, it'll be without me for now, at least until the extended cuts come out. |

You know, I tried to watch the beginning of FOTR EE last night to see how it held up. WOW! I don't remember it being THAT boring. Frodo doesn't even make it out of the Shire for the first hour of the movie it seems.
I'm starting to rethink this purchase. I might get it because it does move a lot faster. And I have a friend who has never seen it before. I don't want to ruin his first viewing with something that is too long and drawn out. Perhaps the extended/additional scenes in the extended editions are more for hard core fans? |

No desire to buy the theatricals. Yeah there's some un-needed stuff but mostly if tons better (except Return of the King, which had too many endings anyway).
of course I've seen each film, theatrical and extended combined, about 11 times or more. I'm kinda burned out on them. Oh and in 2002 when it came to VHS (we were slow and broke and so were our friends) we told some friends of ours they had to watch it. The couple had immigrated from Russia about ten years beforehand, maybe a little more, (The dad was Israeli but came here after going to Russia). Then they had a couple kids who were a bit younger than me at the time. Anyway, they got to the end of "Fellowship" after renting it and the mom was like "Not like most American movies with all the happy ending, great show" since apparently a lot of Russian movies are open ended and depressing. Then her son was like "It's part one of 3" Also that same year when I loaned them "Spider-Man" his dad cracked "I thought it was about some Jewish guy named (pronounced) Speederman". It was simple but we all laughed pretty hard |

It's also interesting to take in to account the opinions of different cultures. That's what makes the world go around. Anyway, love the artwork! |
