I love these movies...my absolute favorite.

I am disappointed they do not include both EE and TE...

either way...EE are not for everyone...and i want both.

Probably the only movie I would do this for...

I watched the first two of these..... and can only imagine that they have the potential to look and sound fantastic on Blu-ray.......

Won't buy them.... but with these being released, hopefully it'll cause some other studios to roll out some big titles to put up a fight rather than tighten their belts and ride out the storm..... it'll be interesting to see what marketing strategy they go after

I'll wait for the extended editions.

They sure knew how to put out this movie on DVD, theatrical widescreen or full, then extended with or without statue, then theatrical and extended together. Also 3 different boxed sets for those who didn't buy seperately. They really catered to everyone and forced hardcore fans to empty their wallets.

I can just assume we will have at least 2 choices on Blu-ray, I'll wait for the extended editions.

not sure where to look.... so it may be easier to ask here....

What is O.A.R. on this one? I can only imagine we'll be inundated with comments from new members saying they are mad because their DVD fills the entire screen

I'm hoping for Grain and Black-bars...... welcoming the storm

I am going to be a sucker for I am dying to see and hear them in HD. When the EE come out, I will just sell the theatrical. They shall 'tide me over' until that day arrives.

I will be getting both the Theatrical and Entended versions. Sometimes I want to watch the LOTR movies but I dont have time to sit through a 3 1/2 to 4 hour movie so in that case I pop in one of the theatrical versions. These are my favorite movies of all-time and I have no problem double dipping.

Sorry, but I am not buying that one. IF you have 3 hours to watch a movie, you have enough time to watch the extra bit that is in the extended version....this just seems like you are trying to justify a TE purchase knowing once the EE version comes out that the TE will be useless.

I am surprised renting is not even an option for more people......

The box may reel me in... It looks gorgeous! But these films were meant to be seen as EE's...well, that's my opinion anyway. I'm not dishing out the $. I'll netflix and enjoy the pristine picture and sound and when the EE's come out, I'll hit it up. Already got the dvd set...

They should release these over the summer, it could possibly do better considering how crowded this fall/winter will be with releases.

I think I'll buy them. I don't wanna wait 2 years more for these movies.
I mean you never know what could happen to you in the next 2 years. Perhaps while minding your own business some wacko armed with an automatic weapon suddenly decides that you have lived long enough!
Or perhaps the recession gets much worse and you end losing your job, penniless and without The Lord of the Rings to ease your sorrows!

Nahh seriously I don't think I'd wait until the summer or winter of 2011. I'll buy LOTR Trilogy this year if it's a quality edition.

Honestly I would love to get these when they come out on blu-ray but im sure the best idea is to wait for the extended editions next year. but if we remember that new line eventually realesed the trilogy with both extended and thretical cut on a 6-disc DVD set. Im sure New line will eventually do that on blu-ray.https://forum.blu-ray.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif;)

yeah, rent the whole trilogy a couple times a year till the EE's come out and you might as well have bought them.

I really want to wait for the extended editions but I just don't think I can .... these are my favorite films and I'm impatient so I may just end up double-dipping.

I'm probably not buying as I want the extended editions BUT there is nothing stopping me from asking for and getting it for my birthday (in December) or Christmas!
For all of you who don't want to pay for it, just ask for it for Christmas! They aren't supposed to be coming out until December anyways!
