I know I should have put this warning at the beginning of the thread.

It's not. The box was tedious but staining it was what made it interesting.

You are hooked. There is no cure for upgradidis disease. We need a support group. Perhaps, we should start an AA meeting for Home Theater addicts.

I mean, I'm great with woodworking, I like to think, my strong point as an architect student is model-making - but, let me see if I get this straight. Build box. Put damper in box. Put woofer in box. Put port in box. Put amplifier in box, connect to woofer.

Is this the basic?

If you have the tools, the space to do the work, and money in the bank, you are already half way there. We want to see pictures.

Shoot, all of a sudden my eyes are widening when I look at Parts Express. I could, in theory, make my own speaker, as well? Box, crossover, and drivers and binding posts? I think I would have to read up on a LOT of stuff to make this work.

That's about all there is to it but it still is time-consuming to make a sub like I did with no real instructions. That's why it's a project though.

I would have to wash up on my skills with a saw and veneer with any speaker or sub cabinet design, I'm too much of a perfectionist to let little mistakes in woodworking slip through...something to think about, I assume!

Donate your B&W and Martin Logan to me and start from scratch.

Parts Express actually sells complete speaker and subwoofer kits for you to assemble. For beginners, this is not a bad option to gain some experience.

Shoot, I've been needing a bedroom setup, and what better project over my winter break than to assemble it myself??

Haven't had my hearing checked as of late - but I'm still decent (If being a crytologist for 12 years didn't ruin it - I don't think HT will )! Bass in my home is increadible - deep, dynamic, and effortless. Oh and my electricty bill - well, I try to conserve - but I have to let it rip every now and again !!!!

Damn it Big Daddy, I've been thinking about what two 18" subs would sound like all day! I've also been wondering what a single 18" sounds like (yes, I've never heard one except maybe at a theater but nonetheless, I've never really heard one). I simply could not do another sub project for myself. I have too many as it is. Perhaps for the living room... No. Then I'd end up upgrading the whole system out there including the TV, furniture, and who knows what else. $hit! I need to watch a movie on the projector I'm getting in on Thursday but first I need to make a screen! I need to stop spending money! I used to be/am a cheapskate! This is mutiny I say!

I put a warning at the beginning of the thread. You should have read it more carefully. I accept no responsibility if you end up in the poor house with multiple subwoofers. Just because I threw my money away to create this thread, it doesn't give you the right to do the same.

P.S. I have heard 18" subs and crazy speakers at high end shows. You need a crane to carry it.
