No make difference.

Try close to HDTV. 4K is 8 million pixels than 1080p close to 2 million pixels.

It's not passing native 10 bit color, according to reports. There is a petition on AVS Forum to get Panasonic to correct this oversight. The Philips is not reading HDR header data on some titles correctly.

First gen glitches!

Philips look fine with HDR. I watched on 1080p 8bit.

What you expected? Samsung glitches wrong HDR too brighter or reddish.

Swarna Ma: Hi, thank you for reaching out to Samsung technical support. How may I assist you?
Visitor: Need to see if there are any release notes on the newest k8500(Firmware) ver. 1007.0 - All OS (MULTI LANGUAGE,526.69 MB)?
Swarna Ma: I see that you are looking for latest firmware for the TV. Is that correct?
Swarna Ma: *Blu-ray player.
Visitor: For the 4k Blu ray player, it auto updated last week. Just want to know what was changed or updated.
Swarna Ma: I will assist you with the information.
Swarna Ma: I have checked the information for you and I see that the firmware for this player is 1007.0.
Swarna Ma: Samsung has not yet released new update for this player.
Visitor: The newest update was released on 8/23 and is version 1007. I need the release notes for what was changed or updated.
Swarna Ma: Samsung only releases new firmware update if the player has any issues. As of now there is no firmware update released by Samsung.
Visitor: If you look at the product page it lists the one I have provided you. Can you not get that information for me?
Visitor: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/ow...t/UBD-K8500/ZA right under downloads it states: Upgrade File(USB type) (Firmware) ver. 1007.0 - All OS (MULTI LANGUAGE,526.69 MB) Aug 23, 2016

Swarna Ma: This information is not yet updated on Samsung website since it is a latest model player.
Swarna Ma: Once they update it on website, you could find the benefits of updating this firmware.
Visitor: Normally when updates are pushed to a machine, patch notes of some kind are released besides the generic "improve the usability of player and performance of applications". Are you telling me that Samsung doesn't feel the need to have the consumers be kept in the loop on the firmware?
Swarna Ma: Samsung will surely inform it by updating on the Samsung website that the link you have provided. However, this is the latest Samsung UHD player.
Swarna Ma: So, it takes time to update it on Samsung website.

So at about 13' away from the 85" I'm at the right distance for viewing blu ray's but I'm too far away to appreciate 4k quality?

My chat experience with pretty much every company. No one knows anything but the automated responses. Guess we'll have to see.

On a side note, are updates downloaded directly to the player? or do I have to have a usb plugged in for it to download to that?

According to the chart yes.

But in my experience, the further I am from a TV, the PQ has always looked better. Or is that just my crazy self?

TEST

Move to 11" or 10" or 8" for a sit position short. If you like it.

Bring your light chair to position place.

Just download it via network or internet connection. I have a 70" and sit 9-10 ft away, I wouldn't want to sit any closer tho. Closer you sit the better you see details or lack of I guess.

On a side note, are updates downloaded directly to the player? or do I have to have a usb plugged in for it to download to that?

Anyone?

You are right. I noticed that with my Oled C6, if I pull it too close to me I start noticing more artifacts and pixelation which can be distracting, but when I move it 3 feet further back the picture looks more natural.
Oh and with passive 3D, you MUST have the TV at least at 8 to 9 feet of distance or you will get all kinds of ghosting/crosstalk issues.
To be honest, to my eyes that also applies to 4K, minus less artifacts when TV gets moved up closer. But if I keep TV at the same distance as with HD movies, 4K also looks better. So now I just have my 55" Oled permanently at 8 feet of distance rather than the previous 5 feet

Agree. I used to think tha tcloder distance would mean more details, but the only increase in details is that of the pixels, color gradation, posterization, and near black artifacts

I think the couch is about 9 or 10 feet away. So hopefully I am in the good range. I got a 65" coming today.

You are in an optimal range for 2D, 3D, and 4K.
I am glad I can move my C6 at will...And yes, yes, I admit it, I often wheel it all the way to the kitchen

I like the 3D image better on mine when I'm a little further back from normal viewing distance, sometimes I move the couch back a few feet. I bought Avatar 3D when I got the TV cause I had read it was the gold standard but I like Polar Express better. Jurassic World kicks butt in 3D as well.
