http://www.monoprice.com/StaticConte...rpath=/product If you can't wait for more stock of the 3 foot size, and don't mind paying a bit more (though not the outrageous prices of Monster or AudioQuest), these American sourced, higher quality Belden Series-FE cables are also Certified to work with 4k: http://www.bluejeanscable.com/store/...hdmi-cable.htm Are you currently running anything through a surround receiver or pre-amp? Even without HDR support, you should set chroma output to auto or 4:4:4. turn off Deep Color, leave 24 fps output at Auto, and turn off 24 fps conversion in the Samsung player for best video results. And better yet, one with both Dolby Vision and HDR10 support. Once there is more DV disc content, you're ready for a video player upgrade to one with DV support.

I'll take Blue Jeans Cable for the win, taking on Monster sealed the deal in my book (outside of the proven quality of the cables and manufacturing in USA).
BJC are also listed on the HDMI website's list of participants in the Premium HDMI Cable Certification Program and were first to market a Premium certified cable in North America. http://www.hdmi.org/learningcenter/P...pant_List.aspx Presumably Monoprice don't make their own cables given they're not in the list. |

I'm probably going to keep and use the Samsung KU6300 TV my wife bought me. Is there any kind of Samsung-Samsung benefit to getting this UHD player? If not I will probably try and wait for the Sony UHD machine, since IMO Sony made the best BD players.

None. I would get the Oppo instead. It has a longer life span built in with its Dolby Vision support.

Yeah I know the Oppo is better, but I'm just kind of loyal to Sony with BD players. Though the more I think about it I will likely just play UHDs in it for now and keep using my BD player for BDs. Maybe I should just get the cheap Samsung and upgrade later.

I got one of these for Christmas. Potentially stupid question, but how do I actually verify that I've got the HDMI going into one of the HDCP 2.2 compliant ports on my TV? I've got a Sony 55" X850B - the most info I can find is two of the four ports are HDCP 2.2 compliant, but I don't know which two. So essentially, how can I tell if the image I'm seeing is 4K, or just a 1080 playback? The only UHD disc I have so far is The DaVinci Code, so that's what I'm testing the player out with.

The HDMI port you pick must have HDMI Enhanced enabled on the Sony. That turns on 10 bit processing. Deep Color on the Samsung must be off. 24 fps conversion off. 24 fps output on auto. Resolution on the Samsung at 2160p or Auto. Chroma on auto or 4:4:4. Last edited by FilmFreakosaurus; 12-25-2016 at 08:35 PM. |

Yes, otherwise it creates a screwed up, non-native 12 bit signal, which has to be down-converted in the display yet again. This unnecessary step can cause problems.
