Now I'm having trouble with the two hdmi setup. Every time I pause the movie the audio gets out of sync. I have to back the chapter to get it to sync again. Time to go back through the receiver and see if the setting i changed helps with the dropouts.

I don't have a 4k TV yet. I have an older 1080p Samsung, fat ps3 to play blu-rays, and a Denon 1100 recevier, and 5.1 setup.
Will I see any benefit from buying this or Xbox One S? Was wondering if PQ/AQ would be improved or upscaled? Also, does this Samsung play BD-R (homemade movies). My fat ps3 has been working flawlessly. I was just wondering if there was something better out there that may improve PQ/AQ. I would want it to be reliable though. I saw recommendations for the new Oppo or Panny, but $600 is out of my price range now. Thanks Last edited by maverick22; 12-28-2016 at 12:48 PM. |

I just bought this player yesterday at Costco for $189. I watched The Secret Life of Pets on 4k and had no issues.

Boosting the contrast in the tools menu definitely causes crushing in the blacks based on my tests. Turning on dynamic contrast on my TV does a better job of boosting brightness in HDR without crushing the blacks, though it does cause its own problems like some blooming and artificial look.

Ok. I was asking because Oled TVs have Dynamic Contrast which is widely used in HDR with decent results

My Samsung has that too. I put it on medium this morning messing around with a couple UHDs and it seemed to do a good job of removing black crush and brightening the image. However I would call the HDR impressive with it. It more just made it look more like normal BD, but with the added color and resolution of UHD.

What's the problematic or failure rate with this player now?
A local seller is selling a brand new K8500 for $100 less than retail (I could probably even bargain it down even more). I don't wanna buy it and find out mine is faulty. How does Samsung warranty work, do they require a receipt? If many of the K8500's are still having issues like playback issues, stuttering, handshake, then I will pass and save the possible headache. |

I mean I could be lucky and have a good unit, but if it's not then I have to go through Samsung to replace it. |

Okay well it looks like I will be a new owner of the Samsung K8500! Hopefully a proud one, as in getting a unit that works properly.
I couldnt bargain the guy down to $160cdn for his brand new unit but we agreed on $180cdn. Thats still a smokin deal seeing how these are $299cdn at Best Buy until tonight then go back up to $400cdn lol. $180cdn for a brand new 4K UHD player, ill take that. Obviously if there are problems in the first 30 days ill need to go through Samsung but its a small risk ill take for saving $120. Plus I still get the full 1 year warranty as the seller has the receipt. How is the bluray upconverting on this player? If it can match my TV scaler ill sell my Sony bluray player to eveb lower the cost on the UHD player even more. |

The only thing that I'm unclear about is, if I set the resolution on the player to auto, will the player auto detect what kind of disc is inside? So when I put a 4K disc in, it will always automatically play in 4K and if I put a BR in, it will be 1080P? Because I want my TV to do the upscaling since I have one of the best upscalers found in a 4K TV.
Or do I have to adjust this setting each time? Because if I do, then I would just keep my 1080P Sony BR player and use that for BR's so I don't have to fiddle with the menu each time. It would drive me nuts. TIA |

Better to wait for the 2nd wave of players I guess, seems the next Samsung player makes life a whole lot easier in terms of automatically outputting the correct picture for various things.
