It adds an HDR effect to std programming-don't use it for UHD movies. Try rtings settings-they are great on my ks8000.

My eyes might just be deceiving me but out of the box looked fantastic but going by some of the settings like changing to warm 2 just makes the image look way too murky or yellow even though these are the settings recommended by pros. What about settings on the player itself I read there were a lot of issues at the start is their a consensus now on what offers the best results? |

So it does in-fact downscale?
I've read that a UHD disc looks better on a HD display than a HD disc does; I've also read my projector (JVC RS46) supports a higher color depth and might also benefit from a UHD disc...I want to look into both of these more and the best way to benefit from UHD on my non-UHD system, if possible. |

If there is a benefit, I'm wondering if my Denon 4520 would pass it or if I could use the dual HDMI out to send the signal direct... |

I believe you would need to use the ol' dual HDMI hook up because your receiver was prior to the true 4k video specs and copy protection schemes being ratified. |

I thought I read somewhere they my 1080 projector supports a wider color range than regular HD. I wonder if that's true or if the 8500 would send anything better. If it's dumbed down to regular 1080 with regular color depth either way, it should downscale, right? Nothing I own supports HDCP 2.2. |

Also, has anyone done a a thorough review with the 8500, UHD discs and a 1080 display? |

Compared to samsung's first bluray player which I also owned back in 2007, this thing like like freaking magic! I've had a lot of little issues, but overall am extremely pleased!

I know I'm still within my first 24hours of ownership but I've been playing with it a lot and I haven't had any issues so far.
It's probably one of the fastest loading players I have owned which was a nice surprise when I first popped in Life of Pi to see the disc menu appear within seconds. I might be in the minority but I like that it doesn't have a display on the front, I'm used to using the PlayStation as my main player and that has never had a display on the front so maybe that's why I'm used to it? It's silent too. I have to admit, I haven't heard a peep out of it. |

Since your receiver is outdated, I would send HDMI 1 to the display and HDMI 2 (audio bitstream) to the receiver. Receiver pass-through may muck something up.

Another frustrating thing for me is Star Trek: Into Darkness has shifting aspect ratios. That's something I can handle with regular blu-rays, but won't be able to deal with once I have a 4k display...at least not without spending several thousand more dollars. That's not a 4k -> 1080p issue though. |
