Need your input

I purchase the UBD-K8500 a few months ago. Don't use it that much.

Something happened tonight I have never seen with a player.

I just finished watching a Bly-ray. Everything worked perfectly. I placed another disc in to play and this popped up

Cannot Play This Disc. Ensure The Playback Is Not Damaged and Wipe the Disc With a Soft Cloth

I pulled the disc out. Nothing wrong with it. I placed a new disc in and the same thing happened. Wouldn't play.

I placed a 4K disc in that I played last night. The same thing. Wouldn't play.

I shut the system down. Turned everything back on and one of the discs that the player would not play, is now playing.

Has this happened to you with your Samsung 4k player?

Possibly just a fluke?

Did anybody have success in reseting/changing the Internet Service Location for the Smart Hub? So you can load different apps for other regions and access the content as well?

Can anyone help me? Picked this player up today set it up to my curved Samsung tv and I keep getting this message before the movie plays

This content will be played in HD because the display device and/or the HDMI input port do not support HDCP 2.2. Change the display device and/or the HDMI input port and try again.

Can anyone help me out thanks

What's the model number of your TV? You have to plug this player into a port that supports HDCP 2.2, which may only be 1 or 2 HDMI ports on the TV.

Some quick research says that the MHL port might work, HDMI 4. Hope that helps!

So that message has gone now that I have connected to HDMI 4, if I click on info on my tv remote I'm getting 3840x2160/24p

Would that be right looks a noticeable difference in picture quality since i changed to HDMI 4.

That sounds right.

I have a non-HDR 4K tv and I adjust the settings to my liking. Check the tools on your remote and there are picture settings there as well. It seems like for some I have to tweak it a bit depending on the movie which I don't mind.

I'd love it if you don't mind. I watched it once and I'm thinking of getting it on 4K.

Yeah, I'm just trying to figure out how much color it adds. I have my HDR functioning pretty well but color is still washed out in some titles compared to BD.

Those are pre-set custom settings and the exact values of colour and contrast are not visible. But if you want to tweak picture through the player's own picture settings just click on User and from there you can adjust contrast, colour, brightness, and more

Yeah, it takes different color values for each movie to match the BD though. It's really odd. When I watched Labyrinth I had to max the color to match the BD, but then I put in X-Men Apoc to test out and the color was insanely pushed compared to the BD.

If I can't fine a color setting that works for everything I'm probably returning the player.

its very interesting to me that people are setting differant color options within their players or using internal options on ones receiver rather than the tv itself and pass all the video through your receiver.

We spend alot of money on our tv sets but some don't even use the color options on them they prefer the options on players or receivers instead.

My video doesn't go through my receiver and I'd rather not mess with my TV's setting. The color problem is rooted in my set not having the proper nits for HDR, so the colors are not illuminated enough. I have to push them to match BD color levels, but the setting is never the same.

The real answer, I have pretty much decided, is to either try UHD with no HDR at all (which will require a different player) or to wait on UHD until I get a real HDR television.

I've managed to get the picture to look extremely sharp, colorful, and bright. At times, it's almost blinding (explosions, certain scenes in sunlight, etc.) but it looks very natural.
Well I'm jealous of you finding it natural looking. I can't mess with any of those contrast boosters and not have contrast look... well, boosted.

So I actually ended up selling my Sony 1080P BR player today and I will be now using the Samsung K8500 for upscaling regular BR's.

I just want to make sure I have the right setting. I will keep the K8500 in 2160 resolution all the time and never changing it. So if I have it on this setting and put a BR in, it means the player is doing the upscaling right?

And to get the TV to upscale, I put the player on 1080P? Even though I am happy with the upscaling from this player and I've read some comments about how some K8500 had blackouts when going back and fourth in the resolution menu so I will leave it at 2160.

I'm actually curious as to whether I leave it in 'Auto' mode that the TV will still do the upscaling of a 1080p Blu-ray, and the player will automatically output 2160 when I insert a UHD. I'm still fine tuning my experience with this player. Still using my Pioneer for regular BD for the time being...
