By now, I would have gone with a Sony, Oppo, or maybe LG player. Not this first gen. Samsung. And I'm an owner.

Why is that?

I wanted to go with the Sony but I managed to get the Samsung for $100 less.

Well, for one thing the image quality is better all round. The Samsung has a problem with video filtering on the chroma channels. It also suffers from random micro frame stuttering and the lip sync on its streaming apps can be hit or miss depending on your combination of display and/or receiver.

The Sony and the Oppo both are true universal players that will accept any disc format on the market including SA-CD and DVD-Audio (the latter a first for Sony, which leads me to believe it may have more than a little bit of commonality with the Oppo build). The Oppo is far more flexible in video output settings and has better build quality, though currently lacks streaming apps.

The LG and the Oppo (no word yet on the Sony) will get Dolby Vision updates, which will allow you to keep either around for when you upgrade your display. Can't say that for the Samsung.

The current Samsung can get extremely noisy with certain BD-100 discs. The spindle motor unit may not be robust enough for the accelerated disc speeds required for that medium or there is little sound dampening in the chassis (or both).

You sure gave me a lot of good info. Hopefully the eBay seller agrees to cancel. He hasn't shipped out anyway. Thank you for the info. I really appreciate that!

I got this player a week ago. It loads most discs without issue. But Man of Steel 4k makes either a brief flutter noise as it starts spinning, or one time a grinding noise as it seemed to have trouble reading the disc. It did eventually load. I've also had that one particular disc stutter and intermittently freeze up. Anyone else have problems with that one disc? Or is my player bad? Debating whether I need to take ont back.

Your verdict on KS800? I have to admit my LG looked sharper in movie mode..KS8000 seems washed out. Can't seem to get it right.

I haven't received it yet. I wanted the P55 but I managed to get the KS for $750 which is $200 less and Vizio isn't shipping out for at least 2 weeks.

I've owned both and I second his suggestion. The Sony outputs a much better image on my 6300. On your 8000 it might not matter as much, but the Sony is also better built, faster, quiter and has a ten times better remote. It's worth the extra $100.

To be honest, I never experienced any of those issues with this player. I've also watched content on the other top players and didn't notice any difference in picture quality.

I'm not sure if he owns the KS8000, but I do, and I've used various players with it (including the Sony.) You won't notice any differences in PQ if you set your Samsung player up correctly.

Some people have reported that the Samsung player is buggy, but I've not experienced that. The remote is indeed a piece of garbage, however.

I have experienced various issues on the list of user aggreviences as I mentioned and I have the previous Sammy SUHD TV model that is similar to the 8000.

If I read right, they put that in firmware 1010 then backed out? My player is on 1009 with no new updates available.
Lots of people jumping into this thread...anyone know about this?

Thank you for that! Was it retracted or should I check their website? My player is on 1009 with no updates available.
